This makes me very sad. I think he was a principled man.

@canidmajor That looks like a great site. I think seawulf would like to see it.

SQUEEKY2's avatar

He will do anything to save his fake tan skin.
But with this guy stepping down he won’t have to.

mazingerz88's avatar

No. Not fire but congratulated instead for doing his job.

A President who is decent and has nothing to hide would not fire Rosenstein and a President who does might think he needs to show strength but in this case, it’s actually weakness and admission of guilt that would be projected.

janbb's avatar

People are saying he hasn’t stepped down yet but is meeting with Trump on Thursday. I’m not sure what the story is yet.

flutherother's avatar

Trump shouldn’t fire him but he may be tempted to. Rosenstein set up the special counsel investigation and gave Mueller a wide remit to pursue the inquiry. Rosenstein’s replacement may not be so supportive.

seawulf575's avatar

Probably not. Rosenstein may resign, but Trump would not fire him. However I’m pretty certain the liberals in the crowd would never believe it even if Rosenstein did it publicly.

Yellowdog's avatar

Never heard anything about Trump planning to fire Rosenstein except from left-leaning news sources.

I have heard theories that this was a set-up or trap, so that Trump would fire Rosenstein so that the Democrats could accuse him of obstruction. Why else would the New York Times and leaker Andrew McCabe go against Rosenstein’s account? The Left wants Trump to fire Rosensteiin and actually believed it would happen.

janbb's avatar

@Yellowdog. There are current developments you can read about in the news.

mazingerz88's avatar

^^ Lol

Is it equal insanity if one side is against some insane thing and the other keeps defending it?

SQUEEKY2's avatar

@Yellowdog You really need to listen to other news sources ,not just Fox.

Yellowdog's avatar

Well, I was right. So, what’s wrong with Fox?

At least Fox gets the stories from the sources themselves. Not from Morning Joe

Tropical_Willie's avatar

Fox News makes up stories !

Make believe sources like Trump !

LostInParadise's avatar

I am not fan of Trump, but Rosenstein’s comments were off base. If I were president, I would be pretty annoyed with a cabinet member talking about removing me from office. Interestingly, Trump has not tweeted a response. My guess is that Trump will ask Rosenstein to resign and that he will comply.

mazingerz88's avatar

^^ How can it be off base if one truly believes a sitting-President should be removed?

If someone who’s supposed to be on your side starts taking about working against you and you simply lash out and flare up without understanding why, you don’t deserve to be in that position.

LostInParadise's avatar

If Rosenstein truly believes that Trump is unfit for office then he should have acted on that statement and, at the very least, own up to it. He is saying that the reports about him making the statement are “inaccurate”. What is that supposed to mean?

Rosenstein should either back up what he said by resigning or else show that he did not actually mean what he said. I don’t think a president is asking too much to have people who do not want the president removed. Disagreeing with the president is one thing. Wanting him to be replaced due to incompetence goes far beyond mere disagreement.

Brian1946's avatar

He’ll try to, but in a fit of semi-literate rage, will instead fire Rsenstein. ;-)

Mariah's avatar

They’re meeting tomorrow. Conveniently the same day as Ford’s testimony. Willing to bet that Trump fires him during the testimony tomorrow. Not sure which story is meant to distract from the other at this point.

The firing of Rosenstein would constitute a Constitutional crisis and trigger the action response. I’ll be in the streets protesting if it happens – you should be too.

seawulf575's avatar

^what if Rosenstein resigns? Will you accept that or will you irrationally blame Trump?

mazingerz88's avatar

trump will not fire Rosenstein. At least not tomorrow because they’re meeting and trump fires by Tweeting. ( seems cowardly to me )

My guess is since trump may want but can’t fire Rosenstein…yet…he wants to make it look like he gave Rosenstein the benefit of a doubt re his supposed intention of recording him. And then he will fire him after the mid-terms depending on its results.

My bet is Rosenstein would lie saying he was just joking. Or…Rosenstein could surprise me by baiting trump into firing him by admitting he doesn’t trust trump and thinks he is a danger to the country.

That would take real courage ( something Jen Bush and all the Republicans trump insulted in the primaries didn’t have ) and I’m assuming Rosenstein has it.

Mariah's avatar

The fuck are you on about wulf. There’s no reason for him to resign.

seawulf575's avatar

Except he has already offered to resign. He offered that up before this meeting with Trump was set up. You need to get out of your liberal bubble more often and visit reality once in a while. But the question still remains…if he resigns will you accept that or will you irrationally blame Trump?

Mariah's avatar

You’re the one who wasn’t paying attention on Monday. The news outlets reported that he resigned / offered to resign, and then suddenly changed their tune and said that he was on his way to the WH expecting to be fired. The first story was obviously not true.

Why would he resign when his resignation would trigger the Vacancies Act, allowing Trump to fill his position with whoever he wants – a clear conflict of interests that Rosenstein wants to avoid? He’s not going to resign.

Fuck off with your accusations. I spend an unhealthy amount of time reading the news.

Tropical_Willie's avatar

@Mariah Someone spends too much time reading right wing blogs (not you)!

Yellowdog's avatar

The meeting last Monday was scheduled months ago. He was not summoned to be fired or called on the carpet. Your news source may have said otherwise, but it was incorrect and did not happen as you were told it would.

SQUEEKY2's avatar

But @Mariah It’s not Wholesome Fox news, the news that feeds the right wingers that take it as the only word they trust.
Oh that and as others have said right winger blogs ,you know they are all totally true.
(now excuse me I thought I could get through that without wanting to vomit, but I was wrong)

Mariah's avatar

I am aware the meeting was pre-scheduled, how does that change anything at all?

stanleybmanly's avatar

I’ve been uneasy lately. Is it my paranoia or has anyone else noticed that lately Trump has been occasionally saying sensible things and behaving rationally. It’s really creepy!

SQUEEKY2's avatar

Hey @stanleybmanly maybe his doctor finally got his meds right.

mazingerz88's avatar

Yes, but how long can a support staff keep Jekyll under control inside vain, shameless and cruel Godzilla?

SQUEEKY2's avatar

Just keep him medicated and we all might do ok.

seawulf575's avatar

@Mariah your story is a shady as most of the lefty blogs you liken to. And your answers tell me that you are clueless. The story that Rosenstein resigned was followed immediately with the one that he offered to resign. You are correct that the first story was bogus…but that is what you get from the liberal media. But he then met with the president as was pre-arranged. Nothing in there says he was expecting to be fired. That was all speculation from the lefties…the same biased noise that tries passing speculation and opinion as fact. The fact that the meeting was pre-arranged makes all the difference. First it shows that you have no clue as to what it was really about, so you are only parroting the liberal news. Second, you claim you knew it was pre-arranged (when @Yellowdog mentioned it) but you still persist with the idea that it was a meeting to fire him. Think about it….if Trump really felt there was some reason to fire Rosenstein, do you think he would pre-arrange the meeting with him? Why wouldn’t he make the decision and call him in on the spur of the moment to fire him? Or have one of his minions fire him?
You need to understand that you liberals are desperate. You are so wanting Trump to do something that could get him impeached that you slather at any hint of it. First it was the Russia/Trump thing. How many times did I hear that it was just a matter of time until Mueller tied Trump to the Russians? How many times did I hear that the indictment was just around the corner? Then there was Stormy Daniels and you on the left went crazy…because of a claim of consensual sex. Get real. And then it was illegal pay offs. Where did that go? Nowhere. Now it is hoping Trump fires Rosenstein so that you liberals can scream about obstruction of justice. It really is pathetic. Time to put your big girl panties on and admit that Trump won the election fair and square and that he is the POTUS.

SQUEEKY2's avatar

Sure he won all right with little help from his Russian pal Vladimir Putin.
Lets not forget that.
And the Stormy thing, great but then why the hush money to keep her quiet ?

Mariah's avatar

@seawulf575.

” But he then met with the president as was pre-arranged. Nothing in there says he was expecting to be fired. That was all speculation from the lefties…”

Stories stating that Rod Rosenstein expected to be fired on Monday: Fox, CBS, Snopes. Yes, even the lefty news source Fox reported that he expected to be fired on Monday. Fuck off.

“if Trump really felt there was some reason to fire Rosenstein, do you think he would pre-arrange the meeting with him? Why wouldn’t he make the decision and call him in on the spur of the moment to fire him? Or have one of his minions fire him? ”

Yes, he happened to have a meeting already arranged on this day. If Trump decided on this same day that he wanted to fire Rosenstein, which was a reasonable thing to be concerned about given the NYT story about Rosenstein that had just broken at the end of the previous week, this pre-arranged meeting might have been a good opportunity to carry out this firing. This is what I and others were concerned would happen, especially given that many news outlets were reporting that it was expected.

“You need to understand that you liberals are desperate….”

You are lumping me in with every person whose politics you don’t like. Link me one reply on Fluther where I have so much as mentioned Stormy Daniels. Link me one reply on Fluther where I have stated confidence that Russia interfered in the election. You will not be able to find these.

I do not assume that Trump won the election using any unfair means. However, the investigation into the matter must not be obstructed. If the president uses his power to obstruct an independent investigation into his past actions, that constitutes a Constitutional crisis. I would find that very concerning.

Until the fruits of the investigation are revealed to us, you will not see me screaming that Trump won the election unfairly. You will find no evidence of me ever having said something to that effect in the past anywhere on this site. So stop putting words in my mouth.

I am extremely concerned about Trump’s positions on policy, so yes of course I’d be perfectly happy with him being impeached if evidence of wrongdoing is found. But I’m not banking on it. That is why I have spent the last two years resisting his policies by calling my representatives, protesting, and participating in legal, nonviolent civil disobedience. I am not ashamed of my political activism.

Kindly fuck off with your unfounded criticisms towards me.

seawulf575's avatar

@SQUEEKY2 He won with the help of Putin? Where is the evidence to that? Ummm…that statement just proves my point that liberals live by the liberal media lies. Where is the proof of that statement? it’s just opinion and frantic hope. It didn’t happen so you can give up on that.
As for hush money to Stormy I can think of a number of reasons why he might do that. First, I wouldn’t want her blabbing and ruining my marriage since that could cost me a whole lot more than the hush money. Secondly, if I were considering a career in politics, I wouldn’t want a sleazy porn star stepping up to say we had an affair. But there is no crime being committed. That’s the point.

flutherother's avatar

@seawulf575 Why would anyone feel a “frantic hope” that the Russians interfered in the last election? We just want to know the truth and try to ensure it doesn’t happen again. There is little doubt the Russians at least tried to interfere.

Regarding Stormy Daniels, if Trump paid her off to protect his reputation as a presidential candidate then that would be a violation of campaign rules. Trump you will recall denied knowing anything at all about these payments. He is now sure they were made by him personally and not by the campaign. He is sleazy and dishonest to his core.

mazingerz88's avatar

^^To Republicans, conservatives, evangelicals and what have you….sleazy and dishonest to the core aren’t disqualifying characteristics for a US President.

SQUEEKY2's avatar

True along as there are plenty of tax cuts for the wealthy.^^^ sleazy and dishonest don’t mean a thing.

Yellowdog's avatar

@SQUEEKY2 In Tennessee the tax cuts save the average taxpayer $2,000 a year

It seems odd to me that for all the gloom you predicted, dogs will be groping cats and so forth, none of it happened and we have the best economy and employment rates than we had for decades, Yet you STILL want to smear this president at all costs.

SQUEEKY2's avatar

Oh for fucks sake @Yellowdog that $4000 saving he said the average working family would enjoy never happened, so I highly doubt the $2000 you claim happened as well.

mazingerz88's avatar

@Yellowdog Who needs the best economy and employment rates when all it is rich people, corporations and despicably pathetic leaders like trump manipulating everyone’s fate? If you don’t get that, you must be marinating in a giant pool of Kool-Aid.

SQUEEKY2's avatar

I am beginning to think @Yellowdog is actually part of the 1% that got 99% of this tax cut and is trying to sell the rest of the bottom 99% how great his Trump is.

flutherother's avatar

@Yellowdog The president takes reflected glory from the stellar American economy the way a fresh turd in the street reflects the sunshine.

seawulf575's avatar

@flutherother First off, you need to get your facts straight. I challenged that Trump got help from Putin, not that Russia didn’t interfere. Though to be honest, I would still challenge, as I have many times in the past, that any attempts at interference by Russia was meaningless. But my comment to @SQUEEKY2 was not about Russian interference…it was about Trump and Russia working together which is what she was implying. So if you are going to jump in and try attacking me, you might want to stay with the conversation and not try putting words in my mouth. You should know I don’t go for that.
As for your claim about Trump paying off Daniels being a violation of campaign law, you are again wrong. It would be a violation of campaign finance law if he paid her with campaign funds. If he used his own money it is not. And in this case, he didn’t pay her at all…Cohen did.
Your comments confirm my “frantic hope” statement. You are trying to create new reality just so you can have something on Trump.

seawulf575's avatar

@SQUEEKY2 My take home pay went up $200 a month under Trump’s tax reform. That’s my take home. My gross probably did go up $400 a month. I’m with @Yellowdog dog on this one. Also you seem to forget that many companies gave bonuses in lieu of pay raises and some did both.
But I have a question: Why does a Canadian care how a US tax bill impacts the average US worker?

flutherother's avatar

@seawulf575 You are correct about Daniels and US campaign law but that is my point. Trump, who denied all kmowledge of the payoff quickly remembered he had paid the money personally to Daniels when it appeared he might have infringed campaign laws. If the money had come from Trump campaign funds he could have been in trouble. He is a slippery customer.

seawulf575's avatar

^He is a smart customer. Despite his childish behavior, he is no dummy. He knows that there is an army of people looking for anything to use against him. They try creating stuff when they can’t find anything. He knows that anything he does will likely see the light of day and it has to be clean.

Tropical_Willie's avatar

He lies 5 to 9 times a day. Duh , that’s a Smart customer!

NOT

seawulf575's avatar

@Tropical_Willie you are always a breath of stale air. The discussion wasn’t about whether he lied or not. It was about him doing stupid things that could get him impeached. But thanks for playing. As always your answers are meaningless but at least they are useless too.

Tropical_Willie's avatar

That’s part of his lies than there is “I am stable genius”

stanleybmanly's avatar

@seawulf575 If the GOP loses either the House or Senate, that “list of stupid things that could get him impeached” will be up on billboards and at the top of the news nationwide. And it will happen overnight.

seawulf575's avatar

@stanleybmanly Please….fill us all in. What has he actually done that has evidence associated with it that could get him impeached? Fill us in. That is your claim, not mine, so you ought to be able to back it up. And don’t give me opinion or innuendo. Keep to the facts since that is what is going to be required to get him impeached.

SQUEEKY2's avatar

Trump has big ties to Russia, what was the last number of Russians detained for election tampering, wasn’t it 12 or 13?
Maybe the stable genius can keep the evidence from Muellur and his team, time will tell.
What I don’t get @seawulf575, and how you defend Trump to the max even you know how much he lies, and lies about things he doesn’t have to,how can you continue to defend someone who lies so much.
Lets start out with this one Trump claims to have never met Putin, seems honest.
Except when you go back when he was in Russia with the Miss universe contest said he did meet him several times.
Next lets go to the campaign trail Trump said the wealthy should pay their share of taxes including him, seems honest.
Except once in office gives the wealthy a 1.5 trillion dollar tax cut, guess honest just fell flat there as well.
This is the lie that gets me involved he declares Canada a national security threat,LIE!
Just so he can slap unjust tariffs on us.
Keep defending the lier and keep saying we have nothing but hate, we know you do it with nothing but peace and love, another right wing lie.

seawulf575's avatar

@SQUEEKY2 your statement does not support what I usually get as your wit. Trump has big ties to Russia, what was the last number of Russians detained for election tampering, wasn’t it 12 or 13? You have been reading too much Huffington Post or watching too much Rachel Maddow. There were Russians indicted for election tampering…that is true. But you missed the point where the Mueller team stated that no Americans were aware of the tampering. That really doesn’t make a solid tie to Trump. And Trump has some ties to Russia, that is a true statement. He has had some business dealings in Russia in the past. But his behavior as POTUS has shown he doesn’t have a great loyalty to Putin or Russia.
I think what you are missing is not a defense of Trump. I have slammed Trump a number of times. What you are seeing is things like this response to you…I am calling out the innuendo passed as fact. I am calling out the bogus claims. I am calling out the things that have absolutely zero fact in them. And in some cases, such as this one, there is a piece of truth used as a basis for innuendo to make a whole different story. I identified what was true and identified what was innuendo.
Look, you don’t like Trump…that’s cool. I didn’t like Obama. I wasn’t overly fond of Bush II. I thought Clinton was a horn dog that was more worried about his next piece of ass than actually running the country. And there are things Trump does that I don’t like. This isn’t about me defending him or trying to make you like him. I don’t care. But don’t like him for the right reasons. Don’t buy into the lies and innuendo passed as fact. Example: You didn’t like the tariffs he levied against Canada. As a Canadian, I understand why you would feel that way. Cool. As an American, I’m against us being the whipping boy for all other nations when it comes to trade. I think Trump is trying to level the playing field for us, a little. That being said, I suspect there was probably a better way to deal with Canada than that. You are our close neighbors and I feel he could have negotiated more and acted less. But these are discussions about his policies and performance that should be able to be had without all the innuendo and anger.

stanleybmanly's avatar

@seawulf575 You do realize that by November of 2017, Democrats had filed an article of impeachment against Trump for every month he’d been in office. The charges range from violations of the foreign emoluments clause through instigating prosecutions for political purposes and obstruction of justice. Look em up, then tell us what you suppose might happen were the GOP to lose control of the House or Senate.

seawulf575's avatar

Huh. So that proves the Dems are loons. Is there a stitch of evidence? Nope. Sorry. But feel free to cling to desperation.

SQUEEKY2's avatar

Get over the US being the whipping boy of other Nations, and you think your so well informed, under NAFTA Canada is obligated to sell 70% of it’s oil to the US, boy that sounds like we are taking advantage of you.
And under that it leaves parts of Canada short then we in turn have to import oil from either YOU the US or over seas, what is a level playing field you want it all??
Under Nafta you the US has more rights to our water than we do, whats a level playing field you want it all?
For decades we Canadians have been selling electricity to you the US cheaper than we can make it,what’s a level playing field you think we should give it to you free?
Don’t make out that the US is the poor little kid on the play ground getting beat up for his lunch money.
Trump got all bent out of shape when our Prime Minister said no to heavily subsidized US dairy farmers dumping their milk up here, on a scale that our farmers could no way compete with.
There are probably a few things that you would see favour Canada a bit more, but in the long run I think the US got a better deal.
Thousands upon thousands of jobs in both our countries depend on this trade going back and fourth, Maybe you should tell your fake tan ,thin skinned leader that.
