What kinds of problems have you had with hydrogen peroxide?

Asked by Dutchess_III (47126points) September 30th, 2018

I’ve used it for decades to help clean out and dry up wounds. It stops infection in its tracks, and I have had 0 problems with it.

Here lately I’ve been hearing that it “kills the new growing skin along with the bad,” and one person even went so far as to say that if you keep using it you wind up with an uninfected hole where you were hurt! I’ve never experienced anything like that.

Have you ever experienced any bad side effects from hydrogen peroxide?

Never any problems with it. But I only use it once when I have an injury, to clean and disinfect immediately after the wound occurs. In other words, it is a ‘first responder’ sort of chemical.

Once the wound is clean, I use Neosporin or something like that as a topical cream to keep the wound from being infected.

Summary: Don’t use Hydrogen Peroxide to excess. Once and that’s all. No problem.

NO, I haven’t had that problem; however, I’m just as sure that big pharma, working to increase their profits, won’t come out with a hp that WILL kill the new growing skin so we’ll NEED to buy their newest product to clear up the damage!!!

In the navy, we had 30% peroxide we used for an analytical test. If you got a cut on the sub, it could get infected pretty easily. A drop of the 30% peroxide would open up the cut, clean it out, and cauterize it shut in one easy step. Of course it stung like crazy. But no lasting damage.

Apparently its NOT supposed to be used on open wounds.
I don’t use it anymore.
There are better products that don’t sting.
Antibiotic ointments etc

One reason Hydrogen Peroxide was used when I was a kid was because it did NOT sting!!! That’s one reason I’m assuming that big pharma is messing with it in one form or another…now it DOES sting!!!

It’s really just a one time treatment.

I guess I use to to “excess”...a couple of times a day for a few days, anyway. I have never had any problems with it.

@LadyMarissa No, it doesn’t sting, not unless I apply it multiple times in one sitting. When it gets down to the bottom of the wound, where it’s fresh, then it stings. I always figured I’d hit it when it stung. If you don’t want it to sting, just apply it one time whenever you apply it. Once a day or twice a day or whatever.

Had Hydrogen Peroxide used on me more times than I could possibly count growing up. Still alive and using it to this day.

PS: both kids are too.

Not gonna let it bother me or change my habits.

I feel the same way…that’s why I asked has anyone ever really had any issues with it. Not what they’ve read or heard or whatever. Actually had issues.
