Is this an accurate summary?
A Christian friend of mine posted; “The final Marsha Blackburn campaign ad (thank heavens) aired during the evening news, in which she said, “I want to build the wall, reclaim the Supreme Court….”
And I didn’t hear anything after that. My head exploded.
Friends, if those words do not make your heads explode too, then you do not comprehend the miracle of our government that our Founders created, possibly with Divine Intervention, if that notion pleases you, and I think that you need to repeat Civics class.
The Judicial Branch of our government is not supposed to be “on the team”, they are supposed to be the umpires.
The political team that blocked the SCOTUS nominee of President Obama for nearly a year, and which has thus far shoved two of President Trump’s nominees through by cheating and rewriting the rules of the Senate, has ZERO business insinuating that they somehow need to “reclaim the Supreme Court”.
Guess Marsha skipped Civics classes as often as she’s missed House votes.”

Court appointments have been primarily political since the 1980s. Conservatives angered by the civil rights decisions of the 50s and 60s found a way to slow and reverse progress.
Why would conservatives be angered by the civil rights decision 20 years later?
Because they want civil rights rolled back. MAGA means make America like it was when minorities and women were second class citizens.
Just one aspect – they got parts of the Voting Rights Act thrown out in 2013, which cleared the way for states to restrict voting with voter ID laws and purging of the voter rolls.
Brennan Center for Justice:
Shelby County v. Holder: A Catastrophic Decision on Voting Rights – On June 25, 2013, the Supreme Court swept away a key provision of the Voting Rights Act in Shelby County v. Holder.
The Effects of Shelby County v. Holder – States previously covered by Section 5 preclearance are implementing new obstacles to voting at an alarming pace
Modern Attacks on the Voting Rights Act – Over half a century after the signing of the Voting Rights Act, this historic civil rights law is under unprecedented attack.
Next Steps: How We Can Restore the Voting Rights Act – The Brennan Center’s Solutions 2018 Democracy Agenda outlines a series of concrete steps that the federal government must take to restore the strength of the Voting Rights Act.
^Yup. America will be great again, when women are in the kitchen, and the minorities are in the fields…~
@ragingloli Spot on !
@Dutchess_lll You’re using your phone again.
“Why would conservatives be angered by the civil rights decision 20 years later?” because they want ” ‘Murica grate agin” with Jim Crow laws like in the old but recent South.
@Tropical_Willie…it’s not like I don’t know when I’m using my phone and when I’m using my desk top! What was the purpose of your observation?
What I was asking is, was my friend correct in his assessment of the separation of powers?
You confused when I typed in your name and I went . . .
Yes that is the problem we are having in NC with the super majority Republican legislature. They are trying to take away things from the Executive’s branch of the government and give themselves executive powers by changing laws and that includes an amendment to choose the judges and the ethics committee (they review all inappropriate activity of the legislature).
—sry!
That is something to think about Willie….I think I need to study up here.
