Join me in saying farewell to screenwriter William Goldman?
newspaper story
What a great, talented, and accomplished guy!! He wrote some great screenplays that are classics even 30+ years later.
My grandkids love The Princess Bride – and he wrote the book and the screenplay.
What are your favorites?

His screenplay for All The Presidents Men was fantastic. I also enjoyed what he did with Misery, I think it was even better than King’s novel
I’ve enjoyed The Princess Bride, All The Presidents Men & would like to add Butch Cassidy & The Sundance Kid!!! RIP Bill!!!
Dang, those were all really good films. Examples of films I wish someone was making today, though they don’t seem to be.
All of the films you folks mentioned are on my favorites list.
The Great Waldo Pepper was also great, though I haven’t seen it since about 1975.
“My name is Inigo Montoya, you killed my father, prepare to die.”
I love All The President’s Men and Butch Cassidy and The Sundance Kid, but my favorite he wrote was the Chevy Chase film Memoirs Of An Invisible Man. The book was good, but he trimmed and fixed problems it had, and made a wonderful film.
He also consulted on Good Will Hunting. He didn’t contribute to it, but told Matt and Ben not to complicate it with too much side plot.
I loved Butch Cassidy back in the day. I had no idea that it had a connection to The Princess Bride, which I first saw only a couple of years ago. Beautiful movie, it’s deliberately corny but still engaging for adults and kids.
