How much total tax per liter of fuel do the French pay?

Asked by gondwanalon (23232points) November 25th, 2018

There’s been recent violent protest in France due to fuel tax. I’ve read that the fuel tax has recently gone up 7 euro cents per liter (30 US cents per gallon). And the French pay €1.06 per liter ($7.06 a gallon) for gosoline (“slightly more for diesel”) including fuel tax.

But what is the TOTAL amount of tax that the French pay per liter of fuel (diesel/gasoline)?

Think taxes are about 60 % of the fuel cost.

So €0.60 per liter or $4.20 per gallon.

Where did you get €1.06 as the price of litre? The price last month avaraged €1.50 a litre for diesel. https://www.globalpetrolprices.com/France/diesel_prices/
If fuel tax and VAT combined are about 60% then that would make €.90

@Lightlyseared Oops sorry. The Tacoma News Tribune this morning said the price of gasoline in Paris is €1.64 per liter ($7.06 per gallon). I copied it wrong above.

Thanks for the information.

I’d be rioting too if I had to pay 60% of the fuel cost in tax.

It has been 40% to 50\% for years in Europe.
