What will the society be like if there is no money transaction, but using skill trading instead?

With the existence of current bitcoin and the other intangible objects trading, instead of cash, can you imagine what will the society be like if there is no money transaction, but using skill trading instead?

There has to be some sort of money for modern society to work. Bartering or skill trading can work on a very local level, but if you want to buy goods on the internet you’re going to need more money. There are small communities that have money representing an hour of work, which effectively means skills are all equal. An hour at the doctor equals an hour of laying tile. I’d still call their points or dollars money though. The tax man technically sees it as an exchange of money if you trade skill.

If the world ever gets so open and so socialized and so much integrity and so much bounty that we go to a non-monetary system like Star Trek—well, that would be really something to see. But, that isn’t really bartering either.

Lots of very poor people. And how do you give entitlements?

It can’t ever happen. There are some people who have no skills to trade, but who will be recipients of funding anyway.

Then, what about things like birthday gifts and awards, where one is given money for doing nothing in exchange.

Finally. and most importantly: Money right now is fungible. I can turn it into food, medicine, airline tickets, technology, or gambling. MOney doesn’t care because it is a common means of exchange with no central management apparatus.

Going through bitcoin (or other false currencies) means centralizing all transactions, or giving control to some controlling third party. Money is no longer a free medium of exchange. It is central control at its worst.

Never happen.

Skill trading? Like someone in Los Angeles builds an iPhone, and trades it for a cow and five bushels of wheat?

If the crypto currency idealists really got bitcoin or ethereum or any other fake money to work, it would be cash. In fatc, gettin bitcoin to behave like cash would be the legitimacy it craves.

But bitcoin is extremely inefficient, which is why it won’t ever replace fiat currency.

You will be hard pressed to find a skill that is valuable to everyone you want to trade with.
You think the bakery has any use, let alone repeatable use, for my ability to make CG pictures of buildings, or for the priest’s ability to rape little boys?

It isn’t possible but would be interesting to imagine what would be the scene if that ever happens. What would film actors / artists do to get some food in exchange? They will have to inact a scene from their play/movie? What would the scientists do if faced with such situation? Show some science magic to the another party?
