What song(s) did you previously enjoy but have heard too many times?

Asked by Love_my_doggie (13084points) December 5th, 2018

My own examples:

Beatles. “Hey Jude.” It just drones on-and-on.

Eagles. “Hotel California.” Ditto.

Bruce Springsteen. “Born to Run.” I’ve been a devoted Springsteen fan since the mid-1970s, but this song got old after I’d heard it about 1,000 times.

Ed Sheeran. “Shape of You.” The first time, I thought it was fun and catchy; now, it makes me want to rip out my hair.

Whitney Houston. Anything. I think her style of pop music hasn’t aged well, and her songs get too much radio time.

The one standout in my memory is the insufferable “Theme from a Summer Place” by the Percy Faith orchestra.

Sara Bareilles-“Brave”

Adele-“Hello”

And I like Adele.

But enough, thanks

There are some that, for a reason, became ear wurms (one was so for weeks; day in, day out).
That quickly turns them into songs I despise.
The weeks long ear wurm: Don’t Speak – No Doubt

I also made the mistake of choosing one of my all time favorite songs as a ringtone for my phone, some eight years ago.
A mistake because I had a phone phobia at the time; whenever it rang it scared me so much that I’m convinced I’ll live three years shorter because of it.
My favorite song became my most ‘traumatizing’ one.
Free Spirit – Birtha
It has grown on me again, by the way…

“Hallelujah”. I love the song but now that every Tom, Dick, and Harry youth choral group and flash mob has made and posted a version of it, I am heartily sick of it

@janbb Amen to that.

I’ve occasionally binged on Angelica Hale’s cover of Girl on Fire, but her performance makes me so emotional that I have to stop watching it before I drown.

Apparently in many circumstances, my emotionalism acts as a limiter so that I don’t OD on my favorite tunes.

I guess another reason I don’t OD on any tune, is that I don’t listen to music sources where anyone else is choosing the music.

@rebbel explained how he developed an aversion to hearing one of his favorite songs, but how did the other posters here develop theirs?

@stanleybmanly

Summer Place was never more than elevator muzak to me, but for some reason it was #1 for 6 weeks here in So Cal.

@Brian1946 I explained as well.

@janbb

How is it that you kept hearing all those other versions of Hellalujah?

Was it a choice or were there some situations where you were involuntarily subjected to it?

janbb's avatar

@Brian1946 It’s all over FB and people covering it on Pandora, etc. Listening to the radio, walking down the street – it’s everywhere these days.
