Would Trump have been a gold mine for Shakespeare?
I’m listening to a radio program speculating on the topic

Fu King Leer…he does that to women right?
Of course! It would be the worst tragi-comedy Shakespeare would have wrought. Lol
I don’t think so; he’s not nuanced enough. You have to have some compassion for a tragic figure even if they’re brought down by their own flaws. Perhaps as a clown in one of the comedies but not in a great tragedy.
You don’t view the situation of Trump and this country as a tgreat tragedy? My bet is that Trump is in for a place in the annals of literature to rival that of Lincoln.
@stanleybmanly It is a tragedy for the country but Trump is not a tragic figure and hence, would not make great drama. There will be plenty of books and movies about him though, I don’t doubt.
It surprises me that you don’t view Trump’s story as poignant tragedy. Just consider for example what his interpersonal relationship with his family must be. Imagine for example, Trump as YOUR dad or husband.
I don’t think he’d have wasted much time on this one. There’s no real drama there, just a lot of chaos, confusion, and churn. Shakespeare dealt in themes that had some moral subtlety to them. There’s no more subtlety here than there is in a truckload of manure.
But even he was once someone’s darling baby boy! Whatever happened between then and nowadays it must be impossible to sidestep the tragic.
Sad, surely, and pretty effed up, but by no means tragic.
Wilhelm Shakesman would have gotten more out of good old Adolf.
