My friends computer is down so they asked me to put songs on thier iPod but How?
The only way I can is by erasing all of her songs off the iPod and add in the three she wants. Can it be done (On a PC)?

If you enabled the iPod for disk use, you could place them on there that way. Then you’re friend could import them into iTunes later (which then would sync with the iPod to make the music playable.)
I believe that your friend will likely need to use her iTunes to enable the disk use functionality though.
Ok. And she also told me I could go into iTunes>Edit>TAB Syncing> And Check Disable Automatic Syncing. But that still didn’t work.
@jamzzy… there is an opening for the position of Zune Guy, if you’re interested.
@swimmindude, no, you won’t be able to use your iTunes to update music on her iPod. I’m not sure what to tell you to do if disk use isn’t already enabled on the iPod.

disk use == the iPod shows up on your desktop and you can open a Finder window on it
@robmandu haha, i love my zune, i do not have anything against the ipods but my zune is my life
@swimmindude, here’s how to enable disk use… but like I said, it has to be done from your friend’s computer first. I know that’s not available, though. :-\
Wel, you could always grab all the songs from the ipod over to your computer, then update it with all the old songs and the new ones.
@wilhel, how exactly would he do that (since it appears we’ve already eliminated disk use and iTunes as transfer mechanisms)?
Even if possible, his friend would then need to duplicate the procedure on her end in order for her iTunes to regain control. Not worth it for three measly songs.
check out senuti it rips songs. It may not be worth it, but it’s the only solution i can think of. Yeah, he would have to do the same thing afterwards.
Senuti requires disk use to be enabled. :-\
Well looks like disk use is the only possible solution. Isn’t it.
Not an iPod engineer… but yah, I think so. Without disk use enabled, that means the iPod is only gonna respond to one thing: iTunes.
And iTunes is only gonna do one of two things:
– if it’s the iTunes that owns the iPod, then it’ll sync up.
– if it’s not, then it’ll prompt you to erase the iPod so you can load your own music.
With disk use enabled, the iPod will allow itself to be looked at by another computer’s OS. And then utilities like senuti know how to circumnavigate and get to the hidden bits (like the music files) which are usually kept separate so users don’t accidentally mess anything up.
Or select “Manually manage music” and drag your songs over.
@Pupn, the iPod still needs disk use needs Manually Manage Music enabled from iTunes on the owner’s computer first.
I haven’t seen that. My kids bring over friend’s iPods all the time that are set to sync to another library. They just click “Manually manage music” in iTunes, reconnect the iPod, and drag their files over.
You know what… I haven’t personally tried that option… you should give it a shot, @swimmindude.
Sounds a hell of a lot easier!
should work, but he wont be able to sync it when he get his computer up running again. but of course, then he could use senuti… :)
yeah. haha. I’ll try it. Thanks.
Use a Windows machine or VM and check out ‘Yamipod’ which will allow you to place music on her iPod without using iTunes, and it will be playable instantly unlike using disk mode which just stores it on there as data.
