Do you think that the USA healthcare system is MUCH expensive? If so, why? (my opinion follows)

And since we are on topic, what’s the best organized healthcare in the world, as far as you know? Because it’s not the American’s.

PRO:
– -Patient uninsured – pays the hospital and the doctors
– -Patient insured – paid by insurance and Medicare.

CON:

- 28% of Medicare costs involve the last 6 months of life. (I don’t know if the percentage is official or not)
– Much paperwork
– Americans pay much more for pharmaceuticals than anyone else in the world.
– Fraud of $100 billion a year. (Medicare)
– Unnecessary scans and tests done by: 1) families 2) doctors who want to avoid a lawsuit (guys, especially the latter is serious, the doctors spend $600+ billion a year to avoid litigation! I mean, are we damn kidding ourselves? And you know what the best part is? They can afford it, I mean, WE pay doctors a lot more than in other countries!)
Lemme know your thoughts on the answers below.
For those who didn’t know, I did a bit of research, not exactly accurate, but we can discuss it.

The US medical system is a good system in terms of Doctors and equipment, the bad part is a 55 million or so us citizens can’t access that system.

As for drugs the drug companies hold a monopoly and can charge what they want or can get away with.
Let other drug companies compete and bring the cost down.
Affordable health care should be a right of every human on earth regardless of what country they are from.

US “health care” spending per capita is twice that of comparable countries, because we are shoveling money to companies that skim half off the top before it gets to any medical purpose.

With that money, they have a virtually bottomless war-chest to assure legislatures will not vote for an alternative, and to assure half the country is convinced that any alternative is Godless socialism.

Per Capita Healthcare Costs (source here)
$10,209….United States
$8,009…...Switzerland
$5,728…...Germany
$5,511…...Sweden
$4,902…...France
$4,826…...Canada
$4,717…...Japan
$4,543…...Australia
$4,264…...United Kingdom

I have nothing to compare it to, in my experience, since I have not lived in another country.

For those of us who have dealt with serious illness and bills, I will say that the care seems to be good, but yes, it is expensive.

My husband’s issues over a decade include two seizures, three knee surgeries, two or three rounds of kidney stones, and set us back around $10k, and that was with insurance.

I don’t find that extreme, and I would think not many households would have quite as much bad luck in such a short period of time as we did.

I don’t believe our prescriptions are that high either, ranging from $5 to $40, for a three month supply.
