Why don't men, who shave on a daily basis, wax instead of shave?

Asked by Dutchess_III (47126points) December 26th, 2018

And why are women discouraged from shaving their faces and told they should wax instead? And why do we shave our legs instead of waxing them?

It takes a REAL woman to withstand the PAIN of waxing!!!

I’m not a real women then! Forget that noise!

Beards are generally very thick, grow kind of straight, and I think it would be really hard to get it all. I think it would be very irritating and risk scarring.

Some women do shave, most women laser or do electrolysis on their cheeks and chins if they need to remove the hair. Eyebrows and upper lip can be done with wax or electrolysis. Eyebrows I wouldn’t risk with laser.

I tried Nair on my face once and it did nothing. So I figured my virile testosterone-powered manscape was too much for delicate lady solutions.

@Caravanfan I had just finished waxing my legs just before watching that movie & I laughed my butt off. Yes, I know it was staged; but, it was a good representation of how most men would react!!! I waxed a male fried’s back & his response was almost identical to that clip!!!

@LadyMarissa Actually that’s the point. It wasn’t staged—the entire scene was done ad libbed. They just set it up and all the reactions were real.

OMG That was hilarious Caravanfan!

@Call_Me_Jay…oddly enough it didn’t work on my face either. Anyone know why?

If your legs were covered with thick whiskers instead of fine hair, you’d understand.

Dutchess_lll's avatar

^^That’s why I specified men who shave every day.

Because…OW!!

Do I look like I could give birth?!

Dutchess_lll's avatar

Lol! Both are pretty tortuous although waxing doesn’t make me wish I was dead.

It doesn’t matter if a man shaves every day. The skin on a man’s face is different than the skin on a woman’s face because the skin on a man’s face supports the beard. A man’s leg hair isn’t to much different that the hair on a woman’s leg so it would be a poor comparison. If a man, or at least some men, waxed their beard it would probably rip the hide off.

Dutchess_lll's avatar

Why would it? Why wouldn’t it rip more delicate skin off?

Because it’s not very hard or painful at all to shave a face with an electric razor?

Legs are much larger and less easy to reach and see all sides of and so on.

Also I imagine that waxing a face would hurt!

LadyMarissa's avatar

I would assume that the contours on the face would make it much more difficult to rip the hairs out in unison. You need to pull the skin really tight just before the rip & that doesn’t work very well with the facial structure!!!

Dutchess_III's avatar

It DOES hurt @Zaku, which is why I refuse to do it! People think that I“m strange, though, for using a razor (not an electric one) because I’m a woman. They don’t understand why I would choose that over waxing.

I mean, I don’t wanna wind up looking like the elephant man.
