What are your favorite songs by Elton John?

Asked by rockfan (14632points) December 29th, 2018 from iPhone

I was browsing through Elton John’s discography today, and although I noticed he has some pretty bad albums in the 80’s and 90’s, I realized just how consistently great he was in the 70’s – most of the albums are top notch all the way through in my opinion.

My favorite songs of his I think are particularly underrated: “I Need You To Turn To”, “Sixty Years On”, “The Greatest Discovery”, “I’ve Seen That Movie Too”, “Social Disease”, and “My Quicksand”. What about you?

Candle in the wind. Was nice at princess Diana’s funeral in 1997.

“Your Song” and “The Greatest Discovery” which leaves me in a puddle each time.

A friend of mine played “The Greatest Discovery” at their sisters baby shower and everyone was a complete mess of tears.

@rockfan I first heard it when my second son was born and sent it to my oldest when his second son was born.

I like,“I’m still standing”.
But fine with just about all his stuff.

Where to Now St. Peter
Madman Across the Water
Levon

Texan Love Song

And I am going to guess that no one lists any song after his “Blue Moves” album

I really loved “The Diving Board” from 2013, I thought it was a terrific return to form.

My Quicksand is a standout track.

When I last looked into it, I think Elton John had a song in the US top 100 at almost every moment for 20 years starting in the early 1970s. Probably it was the top 40, but I am erring on the side of caution.

I can’t possibly pick a favorite, but I really like this ‘Levon’ from the BBC.

I haven’t listened to “Don’t Shoot Me I’m Only the Piano Player” for about 40 years, but from what I remember, I really like Daniel, Teacher I Need You, Elderberry Wine, Have Mercy On the Criminal, Crocodile Rock, and High Flying Bird.

On the Goodbye Yellow Brick Road album: “Funeral For a Friend” and “Candle In the Wind”.

Another one of my top EJ tunes is Your Song.
