Have you had bad experiences with imitation iPhone chargers?

Asked by mazingerz88 (29220points) December 31st, 2018 from iPhone

Because they’re cheaper I bought several imitation made-in-China iPhone chargers. I don’t use rechargeable batteries.

I just make sure I have two in my bag and one in every room in the house. All imitation.

For most of the time they work at home but in groceries or coffee shops there’s a 70 percent chance they won’t.

Bit puzzling but I suspect it’s because it’s not made by Apple’s manufacturer in China.

Should I just get rid of all these imitations and spend good money on buying Apple chargers?

It’s hit or miss but when it’s a miss there is a slight chance you may burn your house down. Usually they just stop working though. When I do use cheap chargers I do it when I’m home and in an area that won’t readily catch fire.
Are these places you are using them that don’t work on solar power? If so they are probably using inexpensive inverters that output a modified sine wave. Little cheap chargers especially don’t like that.

^^No I don’t think they work on solar power. Peet’s Coffee shop, Whole Foods, at Regal Cinema, the Metro ( there are certain spots where an outlet is available )

Just wary checking out how much a genuine Apple charger cost these days. Best guess, 25 bucks?
