Should one have a certain proficiency with computers to work in most office positions today?

I don’t understand how some people get, and keep their jobs.

My desk top is in the shop and I bought a new laptop. I’m having to reload a lot of stuff. I have 4 email addresses, and before Google will show them to me as a list to choose from, I have to manually load them first, one at a time. THEN it will add it to the list.

I have one email that I made specifically FOR substitute teaching, but I don’t remember exactly how I have it named, so I can’t bring it up.

I emailed the lady who is in charge of calling the subs at the only school district that is open today, using my main email account, and asked her to send me a copy of that email address. She is in her late 20s to early 30s, so you wouldn’t think it would be that difficult…but it was.

First she said she can’t email it to me because she didn’t originate the email address so she’d have no idea where to find it. In retrospect I should have stopped there….I’ve worked with her enough to know she has quite a bit of trouble in that area…

I asked her to just type the email address in the body of the message like DutchessDoe123@gmail.com.
She said she didn’t know where she could find that so I started to give up.

But then she patiently explained that I need to “just pull up Google” and it will give me a list of my accounts.
I reexplained that with this new computer I have to manually enter it the first time.

Then I sent her a screen shot of the emails I have to show her how it wasn’t on the list.

Well, at the bottom of the list it says, “Add account.” She told me “all I had to do” is click on “Add account” to add that account.

I finally just said “Thank you,” and was ready to drop it….but then she FINALLY sent me the email address in the body of the email which is what I’d been asking for all along. She must have talked to a technician.

How do people like that even land a job in today’s computerized world? I’m pretty sure I’d get fired pretty promptly.
I guess I’d be more patient if she was old and willing to learn, but she’s pretty young. Late 20s, early 30s, and she seems kind of condescending.

Yes, I do. And my one doctor’s office does not offer appointment making/reminders, etc., online, which to me is unacceptable! It’s like going to a restaurant and finding out they don’t accept credit cards!

Seems like younger people these days would know their way around a computer since they are used classrooms. Have been for years. I have prenteen grandchildren that give me tips from time to time..Go figure.
