Would China’s successful moon landing compel the US to plan new missions there?

No. Not unless they found something of extreme significance that hasn’t been discovered yet.

The technology you need to get to the moon was invented and proven by the US.
In one way or another the Chinese either stole it, or borrowed it from the public record.
Let them go to moon if they want. The material and technological benefits from the project have already been realized.
They are engaging in what frat boys and soldiers all over the world in every war you can imagine used to call “sloppy seconds”.
In the meantime, would love it if the US and its friends would go to Mars.

The security detail already based on the moon to protect the secret gold mines are great professionals.
There is no need to send additional people at this time.
