I’m a fan of securing the borders somehow, so hopefully I’m allowed to answer.
The video itself is a bit dramatic, although I won’t say that some of all those groups have probably crossed the border illegally at some point.
Unwarranted fear is subjective. If a member of MS-13 moved in next to any of us, I’m sure it would be problematic.
I do believe it promotes the idea that a lot of people are in one of these groups.
So do I approve? I think the President’s job is to worry about America and part of that is security, so I approve of his caring about it. Personally, I think the video is a little too dramatic.
If you look at cases like El Chapo, who escaped max security jail twice, and read reports on corruption, I think it very likely that the number of illegals entering the US with some sort of criminal background are higher than many people realize.
These are the ones that got caught.

Can I answer since I’m not a trump supporter?
Good point. The question is virtually pointless, since even those defending the fool have better sense than to list themselves as supporters.
I think I can guess what Trump haters will write, but go ahead and answer.
@stanleybmanly If you don’t like the question why are you on the Q? We kind of know who on fluther defends and/or supports Trump, they aren’t in hiding here.
Pure class.
By the way, I don’t do hate.
We’re just asking if we can be part of the discussion since you said you were specifically asking “Trump Supporters.”
OK. It was simply fear mongering. That is all that it was. I don’t know what he hoped to prove with the texting thing, though.
^^I understood why you asked, I appreciate you asking. I am most interested in Trump supporters though.
I didn’t say that I don’t like the question. And my point about Trump supporters is that they are rather sparse here.
Oh! The video is now unavailable!
@stanleybmanly They just don’t always speak up and a lot left over the last couple years. Some of us just support SOME of what he’s done but maybe think he’s probably a terrible human. Personally I choose to support all our Presidents to the best of my ability, there’s usually something to admire about everyone.
I’m not in the US so I can’t see the commercial so I won’t reply other than to say I don’t like questions aimed at particular groups on Fluther whether they be Trump supporters, Christians, men only or anything else. All questions should be open to anyone to reply to.
One more K and we have an abbreviation.
Someone took away her K…....
@Dutchess III I can access Youtube but couldn’t find the Trump commercial.
Huh. I can’t find it either. I wonder why.
Egad. I cannot imagine any self-respecting American office-holder putting out something like this.
I also cannot imagine that our current president has any self-respect. Self-regard, yes, but not the inner strength of character that straightens the spine. This thing is as trashy, vulgar, and false as he is.
@Jeruba I take it you were able to see it.
Thanks @Dutchess I’ve now seen the Trump commercial. It is propaganda and it is very divisive. This sort of stuff is even worse than the wall.
Is this really being shown on TV? Where?
It looks and sounds like a campaign add.
Oh, I’m sorry my link didn’t work. Thanks to Dutchess_III.
@Jeruba Yes, I saw it on TV. Can you believe it?! As I was watching it, I said to my husband, “what the hell? Who made this commercial, don’t tell me it’s Trump?” I was thinking it was one of those horrible groups that puts out ads. We stared at the TV waiting for the end of the spot to see who endorsed it, and there was Trump, and I was in a state of disbelief.
It really looks like something that will be playing in museums demonstrating a time in America when hatred and racism took hold again.
I’ve said many times I don’t believe all Trump supporters are racist, and I feel like many of them choose to ignore his bad points, Democrats do the same about some of their politicians, but THIS is too far. It’s terrifying.
I recently researched birthright citizenship for a lecture I gave, and I read up on the Chinese Exclusion Act and the court case US vs Wong Kim Ark (a defining case for birthright citizenship) and was pretty horrified by the horrible racist attitudes against the Chinese back then. I hadn’t realized the Exclusion Act lasted 60 years. We are so close to repeating that history.
