How is “the wall” illegal?

I keep hearing Democrats saying the border wall is illegal or unconstitutional. How is that the case? We already have miles and miles of barriers. Democrats have offered up deals in the past with funding for more fencing or wall.
It seems like a compromise shouldn’t be that difficult, but of course it is.

I haven’t heard anyone argue that the wall, in and of itself, would be illegal (immoral, yes, but not illegal), only that certain actions Trump has threatened in order to get his wall would be illegal/unconstitutional.
Interesting. Never heard any Democrat say the Wall is illegal.
Never heard that. I have heard and the Supreme Court ruled that stopping people from seeking asylum is illegal.
@JLeslie I think you may have confused the words “illegal” and “stupid”. While the majority of Americans believe the concept of the wall to be a profoundly stupid idea, most do not believe it to be illegal, at least not that I have heard expressed.
You made me laugh @rojo!
Yeah, I haven’t heard that either. From the link above it looks like it was referring to the means Trump is using to get it: ”No reading of our constitution would ever uphold the view that a president can stop the functioning of government, to insist upon a program unsupported by the public”
A compromise wouldn’t be difficult but Trump doesn’t compromise. What 2 year old does? Oh. Wait. Lots of 2 year olds do, it they’re taught. But Trump wasn’t and doesn’t.
Funny how Trump is seen by his supporters as a “strong negotiator” for refusing to compromise and yet they label Pelosi, who thus far has not caved either, as an obstructionist who refuses to compromise.
I heard someone say it on TV or Facebook, I wish I remembered who. Maybe I can figure it out. I agree that many Democrats aren’t using the word illegal. Like I said many are pointing out that funds were offered in a deal to help build up the barrier.
He stole it from Pink Floyd.
That’s the BIG problem with Trump that he shares with his fans. It is the same problem that sets the courts to declaring so very many of his “ideas” illegal. The wall isn’t illegal. For that matter, the wall is nonexistent. But Trump and his fellow dimwits are quick to miss the dinstinction between an illegal wall and the illegal financing or procurement of a wall, just as surely as they miss the difference between “is” and “would be”. Did you ever notice that there are never any lengthy deliberations or hand wringing regarding the rejection by the courts of Don’s hair trigger stumblebum proposals? There’s an awful lot of confusion among Trump fans accompanying such intellectual shortfalls. And it’s irritating when open truthful commentary is regarded as hatred and bias. For example, the statement “Trump is an inveterate and pathological liar” is not even considered by his fans for its veracity, but dismissed out of hand as hatred. They instinctively understand the futility in arguing against the statement, but the cognitive muscle to distinguish truth from bias is missing. So of course the MSM and anyone else commenting on the emperor’s nudity is decidedly biased.
