Um, no. Most STEM careers produce technology, neutrally and without politics. STEM propels and advances humanity. Even the act of making negative things like bombs has positive effects that echo into the technological future.

Nope. Look around you . Everything you see was designed by STEM. The machines that made them were STEM. The materials were selected or developed by STEM. The trucks that delivered them to you were all designed, tested, built…. by STEM. STEM careers are needed everywhere.

Granted, some of the coolest stuff is for military.

STEM is the entire medical field. It is robotics. It is Hubble. It is studying crops to make the best possible wines. It is the rc vehicles which can be driven across fields to seek meteorites, or archaeological sites.

Also, finance employs lots of STEM people mostly in some form of IT or analysis.

@LuckyGuy Thats a better question. Where are all the cool jobs in stem?

Many Mechanical Engineers will end up making weapons. If you are a Civil Engineer, you will be making targets. All kidding aside, STEM is needed for designing and building:
– commercial satellites (TV, radio, telephone, internet, weather, GPS)
– commercial planes
– cars
– cell phones
– HDTVs
– medical devices
– video games
– home automation (cameras, thermostats, security, smart speakers)
– food production, processing, and delivery
