Probably not me, I doubt that CRISPR technology is mainstream enough to change much of anything in the short term, on a large scale.
Ten years from now, maybe.
I don’t have a gluten intolerance so It would not affect me very much. I imagine it would be nice for people with celiac’s and other gluten intolerance disorders.
@gorillapaws I wasn’t specifically talking about just this example, but CRISPR in general. I just used this as an example of a practical use for it.
@Caravanfan I guess I read it wrong. I have mixed feelings about genetic modification. On one hand we’ve been genetically modifying organisms via selective breeding for millennia, they have the potential to address many issues such as feeding the world more efficiently and addressing issues like gluten intolerances, on the other I have concerns about the ecological impact of genetically homogenizing the food supply and whether that puts humanity at risk from threats that our food supply lacks the biodiversity to adapt to (e.g. disease or environmental changes).
I also have issues with glyphosate entering the water supply, which is an indirect outcome of bioengineering.
@gorillapaws So let’s say they were to find a gene edit to cure, say, Alzheimer’s disease. What about that?
@Caravanfan I’m all for curing disease. I’m weary about designer babies though and where that could lead.
@gorillapaws I agree with that. You’re “wary” though, not “weary”.
