As I’m sure most of us know, Black History Month is February.

I don’t think it means anything. What other entire months do we have set aside for any remembrances?
@Dutchess_III
Here’s a list of history months.
It could be that these months have historical significance and their lengths aren’t factors, but if that applies to BHM, then I’d like to know why they selected February, especially when MLK, Jr. was born in January.
Oh! July is open! I declare July International Dutchess_III birthday month!
Maybe it has to do with MLK’s birthday on Jan 21st or something. I think Black History month gets more publicity than the others so the fact that it’s shorter doesn’t really mean anything.
I don’t understand why it’s not in January, the month of MLK day. Maybe January was already taken. I don’t think the length of the month is significant. I think it was important it be during the school year.
MLK’s birthday in January 15th; the same day as mine.
And her’s the reason for February
“Black History Month: The celebration of Black History Month began as “Negro History Week,” which was created in 1926 by Carter G. Woodson, a noted African American historian, scholar, educator, and publisher. It became a month-long celebration in 1976. The month of February was chosen to coincide with the birthdays of Frederick Douglass and Abraham Lincoln.” Source
I don’t think 3 extra days would make much of a difference. But perhaps it could be moved to a month with 31 days and white history month could be moved to February…
@kritiper White History is taught the other eleven months, including summers.
Let me check my Roman calendar.
@zenvelo OMG! That is blatant discrimination!!!
