(NSFW) Why don't women watch porn as much as men do?

Asked by dopeguru (1928points) March 19th, 2019

Is it just the levels of hormones? I used to hide that I watch it because I must act like a lady, right? I decided to throw that learned sick mentality and not be embarrassed to share that I watch porn. When I complained to my male friends how it sucks being a woman and watching porn because I find myself masturbating to women, as there isn’t a market for female POV, they laugh and say its because most people who watch porn are men, so porn is made for men. Is this true and/or right?

I used to watch porn with a former girlfriend. She enjoyed it – she said that it gave her new ideas for when we had intimate time together.

My understanding is that men are more visually oriented and that women are more tactile—women like touch while men like seeing.

Those are, of course, generalities and everyone is different.

Because men’s primary drive is sexual whereas a woman’s is security.

Seems to me that almost all porn is made for a certain male-oriented audience, mostly about male desires and fantasiesand things that help them masturbate, and supporting the mindsets that shield their insecurities (e.g. they’re full of women who crave their penises and respond to crude approaches and no foreplay and don’t need or want much besides a penis), which are different from what most women would be more interested in, and which also tends to be very objectifying and weird etc.

When I was 17 I dated a guy for a while, and once took me to a porn theater. At first I was shocked, but it quickly turned to sheer boredom. Maybe it would have been different if there had actually been some acting involved, and heaven forbid, a PLOT. The theme seemed to be women tied up and helpless, locked in rooms, eagerly awaiting to be violently raped. It was really stupid, IMO.

#dopeguru I must act like a lady, right?

If only someone would invent porn where it’s only guys on screen.

No, wait, what about you making your directorial debut and adjust the focus?

Get down bad boy, get it up, get down again, now get it up again, geez this is tiring.

Ooo err, gimme some dialogue baby, you know you want to.

@Zaku Yes, but why? I want porn fulfilling my own desires but I am unable to find any. Its infuriating… If the market is vast majority male then I guess I’d understand, but I’m skeptical about this claim since all my female friends watch porn daily.

From what I have seen, the women have huge tits, and many of them are young. The men look weathered, old, and are either scrawny, or have a beer gut and skinny legs.
Who needs that when you can find better on your own block?

A couple of times I have thought of writing some porn for women, but we have the Fast And Furious movies, and most anything Dwayne Johnson is in. So, I’m good.

She wants fantasy, not the reality she can pick up on her own block or (literally) at the grocery store.

I don’t have a clue what you could be looking for other than naked men sticking their dicks into various places of naked women. What would fulfill your desires?

Totally missed my point, and apparently all others.
Maybe a man-phobian should not be on this thread anyway.

@dopeguru I’m sorry – I think I answered your question title without reading all of your question details.

I don’t know the answer to “why”, but I conjecture it’s been that way because of a combination of social norms (including the many effects of our patriarchal culture), the various actualities of what it takes to produce and sell porn (particularly what it has been like in preceding decades without widespread Internet sales and somewhat relenting social and legal attitudes), and the slowness of industry to perceive new markets and develop new content for them. (There are a few “made for women, directed/produced by women” porn productions, but it may be not so simple to find it amidst the insane quantities of the other stuff.)

For the same reason that Playgirl was not the hit that Playboy was, and most of the audience for Playgirl was gay men. Most women look a little deeper, and for other things, than many men when it comes to making a sexual selection.

That’s not the reason, @OLDMAN0069.

I think old man has hit upon a fairly good point.
Why watch what we can have when we desire (usually)? On the other hand, men are expected to put off their frequency until their woman wants to. Their choices? More women, or alternative solutions.

I know a lot of women who love watching porn, my ex wife loved porn more than me, and I watch a lot of porn.

The thing is, most men have an orgasm by the mere act of sex, that is by moving their junk in and out of a vagina…any vagina will do. Most women don’t. Not just by having junk move in and out of their vagina. That’s why we need to separate the word “sex,” from the word “orgasm.”
