Trying to figure out if this is a regular worry that other people also have. Or if it’s just me.

You mean when you have some who are actually doing that? Or just as a general abstract worry you think about out of the blue?
It sounds like probably potentially dangerous if it actually happened with a child small enough to get into one.
This is wrong (hiding inside appliances) and you aren’t wrong for being concerned. My nephews were playing with friends and one went inside an old refrigerator and was stuck for a bit. Kids die this way. Be concerned.
Seems to me no one should be hiding in major appliances. As a child we were warned not to go inside refrigerators, I don’t remember how it came up. Basically, anything air tight or with restricted air is a no no. We weren’t allowed to put plastic bags over our heads either. I remember the first time I saw a woman put a plastic bag over her head to put on a shirt, I was in a state of shock having been conditioned to never do it as a child. I do it now, but only if someone else is with me. I don’t swim alone either.
I have heard of teenagers hiding in laundromats in the dryers.
Dangerous games are played in laundromats.
So kids should be taught never do this even if a prank etc
There should be a way to prevent this from happening in the way that the machine is designed, maybe have the opening with a slot to feed the clothes only, to load the machines instead of a wide opening?
Only if the dryer is on.
But, seriously, they couldn’t suffocate like in a old refrigerator, and the catches are magnetic so they can easily be opened from the inside.
When I was a kid refrigerators latched and kids died from hiding inside. I believe they even passed a law that discarded refrigerators had to have the door removed. They couldn’t open them from the inside, once they were latched. That is why they now have magnetic strips to seal the door. Dryers are also designed so that the door can be pushed open from the inside. It’s still not a good idea to play in dryers or any other large appliance. Kids are kids and will play with anything that strikes their fancy. Never let them play in them and make sure they understand the danger.
@Jaxk That makes sense. My grandma’s fridge had a latch.
I think I once hid in a dryer during a game of Sardines but no, I do not think it’s a good idea.
Apparently I hid in our fridge as a small kiddywink, my mum was frozen with fear.
Yeah, that is dangerous, Kids should never play with or inside appliances.
