What exactly WAS it about Micheal Jackson that caused him to get so insanely famous?
I, personally, have loved the guy since I was 13. I planned to marry him but he wouldn’t write back.
As an adult I find his songs OK. He isn’t even the very best singer I’ve ever heard.
He is good looking (well, he was before his plastic surgery addiction got the better of him) and he surely can dance, but all of that just doesn’t add up to the force that he became—and it didn’t happen until Thriller hit.
What was it about Thriller? What was it about that guy?
When I was a Christian I was half convinced he sold his soul to the devil with the Thriller video!

He was probably a combination of a few incredible qualities and talents. An phenomenal singer with an amazing range and tone. A fantastic dancer and showman. Writer, composer of great tunes, some of which are already showing they will stand the test of time.
Off the Wall was a game changer in many ways. Read up on it.
Thriller was incredible and added the visual element, changing how we viewed clips, songs and cost to make videos.
I won’t go into the figures oc albums sold, but that is also some kind of indication of his genius.
Likeability. Elvis, Sinatra, Michael. Love them, hate them, they were unique and a once in a generation act.
Add to this the X factor, and timing or luck. Genius.
Sad.
Very sad. His dad was an asshole.
I’ve heard that too.
Hendrix’s father used to beat him for playing his guitar left-handed; what a totally off-the-wall jerkwad.
My father hit me sometimes, which I don’t support, but at least it was for some actual annoyingly bad behavior.
Thriller’s great but I love Off The Wall more. What a blast being a teen in the 80’s. The pop songs, the movies. One never forgets. Listening to Michael sing Rock With You is priceless. Almost heaven.
He and his brothers had a father who was a great promoter. And, those boys were talented!
He drove them like workhorses. He completely sacrificed their childhoods for his on shot at fame and wealth.
Showmanship plus talent & plenty of hype.
