What is the difference between mind and reason?

Asked by thywater (100points) April 2nd, 2019

Is mind irrelevant when it comes to philosophical discussions, aside from the fact that it enables it in a metaphysical sense?

The mind is the mechanism; reason is the process.

The mind is the factory, while reason is the machinery responsible for the “output”. Knowledge is the raw material going in. Nothing is as crucial to the quality of the product as the quality of the raw material going in A great deal of that raw material sould be shunted toward improvement of the machinery to maximize the quality of the product churned out.

The brain is the hardware, mind is the software and reason is the execution of the software by the hardware.

Reason is not the only mental faculty. Emotion, volition, memory, and imagination are also mental faculties, i.e, things we do with our minds.

I agree with @zenvelo – the mind is just a tool, a computer, a physical thing.

Reason is applied thinking.

The mind is the self, the reason is the logic of that mind.

Perhaps:
Mind is about thinking. Reason is about logical thinking.

e.g. My “mind” can be thinking “Shooby Scooby Doo! I AM THE NIGHT RIDER!!!”

My reasoning is (or my mind is reasoning about) debating with myself what words and examples to use to communicate my meaning effectively.

My mind is tickled that I’ve earned another Perfecto-Fish award for this answer. And my mind is reasoning and judging that that’s a bit silly of me, and that it’s a bit silly to be judging myself about it, or typing this, but my mind is entertained, so I’m still doing it. My reasoning is not entertained.
