Can you tell me more about aiguillettes?

What’s the coolest one to be awarded?
I just learned the name of the cord that soldiers wear, and wanted to share with Fluther. Aiguillette.

I never heard the word. When I was in the military they were called “ropes” and the guy wearing one was also called a “rope”.
