Did the Trump tax law changes harm young adults in college who receive scholarship money?
A friend of mine wrote this:
New tax law: College student unearned income no longer taxed at parent’s rate. Now taxed at trust/estate rate. So My friend’s daughter, who relies extensively on scholarship money (considered unearned income) for her college and living expenses, now pays a much higher rate on her taxable income than last year. Her taxable income went up 25% from last year. Her taxes went up 55% from last year.
