Yes, I know several people, all senior citizens, at least 60, but mostly in their 70s, who have had one or both hips replaced, and all of them are doing much better than before they had the surgery.

Apparently, they get you up and walking (not strenuously) on the same day as the surgery. Also, they have perfected the surgical techniques, so that the incisions are small, by comparison from decades past.

Here is a description of what takes place during a hip replacement procedure:

I had a colleague at work (early 60s) who had a hip replacement the same day that my mother in law did. He was enthusiastic about his physical therapy, and was feeling so much better than before the surgery that he was walking 3 miles a day with in a two months.

My MIL hated the therapy, did little of it, because she was out of shape and overweight, Because she never really did it, her walking never got back to “normal”.

Yes. A good friend from high school had it done last summer.

My mother had a hip replacement at 66, recovered quickly and walked perfectly normal.

My aunt had both replaced within weeks of each other. She was always athletic, a professional dancer. She is in her late 60’s and still works out, still goes to the gym. Probably in better shape than most people I know.

My father, in his late 70s, had a hip replacement, followed the after-care instructions to a T and is in his early to mid 80s now and walking perfectly.
