In the National Hockey League (NHL) can you get a penalty for roughing a teammate?

It would not make sense. It would be like penalizing a player for tying a hand behind their back. The referee is not going to penalize a player for giving the team a disadvantage. It is up to the coaching staff of the player’s team to determine how the player should be disciplined.
