Flutherites: Do you like/admire some users and loathe others, even when BOTH may have views opposite of yours?

I think that is basically the nature of human relationships, we would likely be bored if we could easily define what we like or dislike about everybody. There are people here I like a lot that I would cheerfully punch on some of these threads, and some with whom I agree about almost anything and everything, but whose very presences on this site irk the crap out of me.
Same in real life.

I don’t loathe anyone on Fluther, regardless of whether their views align with my own or not. But as far as political and religious debates go, the people I respect the most are those who understand the difference between stating a position and presenting an actual argument for it. Too many people want the comfort of opinion without the discomfort of thought.

I don’t allow the feeling of loathing anyone to creep into my thoughts whether it be on Fluther or in real life.I’ve had a bestie for 68 years & we NEVER agree on anything related to religion or politics…Yet, we are ALWAYS there for each other when the things that truly count arise!!! We talk about everything except religion or politics anytime we get together!!!

There is one jelly that I find disgusting when they speak of politics, yet I find them amazingly human when it comes to other topics on life.I’m almost always amazed when this person says something so wonderfully touching on the real life questions & then see them turn into the demon from hell on the political questions!!!

I admire people who can agree to disagree when it comes to those topics that you just don’t see eye to eye. Even with the people I disagree with, I always listen to what they have to say & think about their opinion to see IF maybe it will adjust my opinion. Occasionally iT does…most often it only softens my opinion without any radical change!!!

I didn’t come here to be admired; so, I seldom worry about what others think of my opinions & I find some here admire their own opinions so much that they don’t have time to admire the opinions of others!!!

That is such a good statement. And on a site that’s geared toward debate, you’d think more people would not expect to post opinions and have them go unchallenged.

I don’t feel strongly enough about anyone here to loathe them. Or love them for that matter. No offense. There are people I frequently argue against, but I don’t keep track of who’s more likely to agree with me or not. I just post my opinions and the response is what it is (and you can bet I will respond). Being politically toward the center, I have people on all sides who will disagree with me. And that’s fine. I enjoy debate as long as people do not get personal about it. It only helps me improve my positions.

I admire all jellies. I may loathe some of their opinions….

I respect all posters all of the time, but some do make me suspicious of their motives when they respond to something I posted. Doesn’t everybody??

I loathe anyone who supports and defends outrageous acts of cruelty like separating kids from parents at the border. You support it, you are evil.

Although I agree, I do opine that most of those jellies think that they are doing what’s right though. Even if they were driven to that conclusion by fear, lies, and ignorance.
I will bet my left tendril, that there are no jellies here, driven solely by malice.

I was hoping that a Meta thread wouldn’t be dragged into politics.Although the subject is relevant to the question, I think that was not necessarily the intention of the OP.

Meh, only a few refuse to move forward, the rest seem able to agree to disagree.

I like and/or admire most users here, and I don’t loathe any of them (except some of the spammers and hit-&-run trolls), even though I do loathe some of the opinions sometimes.

Most people have views contrary to mine here. That’s why I stay. A few positions have been bent here a little simply because I understand the people behind the other side and their motivations a little more. I understand some jellies don’t care for me much and that’s fine. I’m not here to make friends. This is where I can vent my opinions completely unfiltered. I don’t talk about politics and religion with people IRL.

@ARE_you_kidding_me . The fact that your views are different from most others, makes you all that much more valuable to the pond.
I’m sure I have had opinions, or made remarks, that upset you. I want to clarify, that that doesn’t mean that I don’t have a great deal of respect for you, or that I don’t value your input.

You’re right, that Fluther isn’t necessarily a place to make friends. It is difficult to delve into many topics with friends and family IRL. Here, I hope you never change, and always provide us with your no BS approach.
I always look forward to hearing your opinions on a subject. The more we disagree, the more we can learn. At least sometimes…
