Should there be anything that members of parliament, senators, and the other people who work with them, for free (i.e tax payers money)? If so what?

I don’t think I’d say they need to have anything for free, but some of the perks they get compensate for moderate pay compared to the private sector. Although, in some positions the pay is just as good if not better, it really depends on the position.

If the are military they get housing allowances if they don’t live on a base. They don’t have to change their driver’s license license if they move to another state, They get free medical care, free prescriptions, they can even take free flights in the country and internationally.

I will only speak for myself and say unless it’s a tool to do your job, cell or laptop, etc…there’s no need for any freebies and to me, it’s unethical to take or ask for anything, that could be construed as a conflict of interest.

Say my local Kum N Go offered me free coffee every day, since I was an elected official. Then later they’re re-applying for their liquor license and I have to vote on it. It’s a Conflict of interest, you just can’t do that and pride yourself on your ethics.

They should be covered by some form of legal / liability insurance that would cover them if they are sued for performing their job honestly. This is America after all, the land where anyone can be sued by anyone for any reason. There are always a few people who sue just to feel important or make things difficult.

If fraud is involved that benefit would be withdrawn.

I just want to add no one asked for it. And it applies to 40% (wild guess) or so of the population, if it makes a difference. I don’t think it does. I’m looking for a good link re. the story.
@RedDeerGuy1 They already have security guards ( some of them).
@JLeslie and @KNOWITALL and @LuckyGuy I’m reading your answers.

It’s even for more people than I thought.
“It would affect the entire public service, much of the transportation sector, banks, telecommunications, broadcasters, Crown corporations, the department of national defence, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police and others.”

One of the potential beneficiaries said something like: Giving it to the very people who can most afford it is dumb.”

Are there, or should there be entitlements? IMHO no. (Retired Fed Worker) here.

A secure website/email/internet connection would be useful.
