Given he keeps targeting the same questions, and with the same puerile humor, I posit it is the same troll.

That last response kind of identified him, a regular user who obviously isn’t satisfied with slamming Fluther in his regular account. Gotta wonder how he keeps making accounts without the staff here being able to block him.

It’s currently school break. I wouldn’t be surprised if this is a kid with too much time in their hands.

@longgone is correct. Trolls crave attention & to ignore is as annoying to them as their games are to us. Ignore & flag. The mods will handle it from there.

Just remember that every time you call them a troll, they are sitting there jacking or jilling (depending on the gender). I don’t know about you; but, I have NO desire to create their orgasm…Ignoring deflates their will to live!!!

This is the same guy who posted a dickish comment on one of my questions, so I called him out on it at which point he flies off the handle and is banned. Shortly after that he was returning every week and sending me rude PMs and spamming many of my questions (as well as others).

Missed him by that much.

Or is the recent spam problem a separate problem?

I’m fairly sure that it isn’t.

It usually posts a puerile reply that insults the OP; its avatar usually displays male genitalia; and its user name usually refers to an activity involving its avatar.

@Demosthenes I saw a moderated response on my depression thread. It could be him. If so I’m glad I didn’t get to see it.

One of the mods explained that when they do a mass removal of responses from one bad Apple, it flags all the moderated responses as Spam. So when he posts inane comments on fifteen threads and then gets booted, all the inane comments are marked as spam.

I owe a small debt to spammers. Aside from the jokes some of us enjoy posting with them, they tend to bring up old threads I’m glad of so I can stop following some of them.

I guess I was lucky that I have not seen any of this particular troll. I have only seen a bunch of long lost Q’s hit with Spam.

They use obscene profile pictures, and hop from thread to thread trying hard to pick a fight, and then gush filthy language. It is mostly obscenities and entirely childish.
My take on it is someone desires the attention of one or all of the mods.
Sometimes they flat say, “I’m that one.”

I’ve not actually seen this prick, but he/she sounds like they dwell in mommy’s basement & masturbate over photos of geese in flight.

I actually thought some of his (or hers) responses were funny. I think of a troll like that, who returns repeatedly to set up new profiles, etc., as someone who must really have zero life if they have all that free time.

Can’t an IP ban be done? Or if this joker is using a proxy to change his IP, maybe this site needs to implement a policy where new users need to be personally approved by a mod. I’m a member of a couple small forums that do that.

Yes, we’ve banned the IP addresses. They seem to be using a proxy.

That would be a good policy for trolls. Unfortunate for legitimate new users though, most of whom would probably move on quickly if they can’t ask questions without fuss. Also, there’s the general issue of Ben not being around much.

I might have an idea that would at least make this guy’s visits less obvious. Fingers crossed.
