What was the first year that the British had a general election for Parliament?

Asked by LostInParadise (32222points) June 23rd, 2019

I was curious to get a general outline of British history and found it to be a bit complicated. The Magna Carta originally established rights for barons, not the general public. I did Google searches and am having trouble piecing things together. Fairly early on, like the 14th century, there was a House of Commons. Were all British men allowed to vote for its members? Did it choose a prime minister? How much power did it have?
