Will you be watching the Trump campaign speech from the Lincoln Memorial on July 4?

Asked by elbanditoroso (33550points) July 3rd, 2019

Are you eager to see tanks rolling down Constitution Avenue?

Is this the first step in a military takeover of Washington?

Remember in 2015 when Obama was accused of planning to take over part of Texas? link Should we be concerned this weekend?

Hell, no! And why should I?? The news media will report on it for days, probably…

I am hoping nobody shows up for his little gathering. I will be watching just to see that clown fall down crying. For what he is spending on this all about him parade, He could be giving tax breaks to the people who could use it. You sound excited about it. And no don’t be worried about Trump ruling much more past the elections.

chyna's avatar

No. He does not reflect my views of a free democracy.

JLeslie's avatar

My husband just told me MSNBC won’t be airing it.

I’m disgusted and horrified by this display of military force, but I’ve been saying for 30 years that I wish we didn’t do a 21 gun solute for presidents during they’re burial ceremony when they die. I like when our military band plays at a ceremony or event. Lol. I support our military, but I don’t support displays of war machines, or even massive amounts of troops marching as a show of force.

I don’t want to give higher ratings when the show is live, but I do admit to wanting to know what he says. I guess I can catch the snippets after the fact.

janbb's avatar

Having a very low key Fourth of July and certainly not watching any coverage of Trump/

LadyMarissa's avatar

My understanding from what I read yesterday is that the tanks won’t be rolling anywhere as it would be too damaging to the streets of DC due to their weight. They will be positioned around trump as he speaks so he will look important (in his mind). The article didn’t say how the tanks would be transported to the location…I can only hope it is in a safer manner than driving them there!!!

To answer your questions, NO I won’t be watching. He will have “millions” of people rushing to watch him live (Once again, in his mind).

“Should we be concerned this weekend?” Honestly, I’m concerned EVERY TIME he opens his mouth!!!

ucme's avatar

Of course, always good for a laugh.

Tropical_Willie's avatar

I will to see if Trump rolls missiles on trailers, with the Red Star covered with an American Flag, on loan from Putin. J.K.

KNOWITALL's avatar

Of course I’ll watch.

elbanditoroso's avatar

@KNOWITALL let us know how much was presidential and how much was campaign speech

Yellowdog's avatar

Where are you getting this crap and paranoia?

This is not a show of tanks and military force. This is a 4th of July parade. I know many of you are embracing the political ideology of open borders and some form of socialism, but the majority of Americans believe in free democracy and free market enterprise.

If the Democrats manage to win the next election (whch will actually happen when Texas goes blue), this will be the last time the U.S. will be able to have a 4th of July parade. All of the current Democrat candidates think America is bad, racist. And will make us very weak internally and on the word stage.

LadyMarissa's avatar

Since the tanks won’t be rolling anywhere, what kind of parade do you expect to watch???
Plain & simple, it’s trump feeling important in his own mind!!!

ragingloli's avatar

I would rather look at one of your dingleberries.

KNOWITALL's avatar

@elbanditoroso Happy to.

Since Bill Clinton, I’ve tried not to miss anything Presidential and I feel like I can be a detached observer.

stanleybmanly's avatar

Why bother? If I feel the need for meaningless nonsense, I can dial up 3 stooges oldies. Rather than sit through the drivel, why not simply tune in to the ridicule that will be the analysis to follow?

flutherother's avatar

I may catch up later on the news. I expect to hear the sound of Lincoln turning in his grave.

Demosthenes's avatar

They won’t be rolling apparently, as it’s too damaging to the pavement.

But no, I won’t watch. I’m tired of Trump campaigning. He’s been campaigning non-stop for four years. If you’ve heard one Trump campaign speech, you’ve heard them all. I’ll probably hear snippets of it on NPR, though.

Tropical_Willie's avatar

^^^Tanks and other military equipment are in D.C., positioned around the National Mall. ^^^^

Dutchess_lll's avatar

Hell no. If all goes well I’ll be spending my day with my grandkids. I am not wasting a single brain cell on that idiot.

ragingloli's avatar

Imagine Drumpf trying to give that speech near the end of the Independence Day movie.

gondwanalon's avatar

Whoop de do. A static display of 4 antiquated tanks (Two M1 Abrams and two Bradley Fighting Vehicles). Why are democrats freaking out about that? That’s the real question here.

mazingerz88's avatar

If I go it will be to join protesters. I’m 20 minutes away but sadly I can’t do 90 degree temps.

Dutchess_lll's avatar

It’s an unconscionable expense. It’s a ridiculous display.of insecurity and a tiny penis. I think even many of his supporters are aghast as well, but he’s oblivious.

Dutchess_lll's avatar

Also it’s not just tanks. There wil be flyovers and all that shit.

Here an article from NPR describing the various costs of various displays.

chyna's avatar

@gondwanalon I can’t speak for all democrats, but I, for one, am not “freaking out” over it. That would mean that I’m suddenly upset or angry over this unconscionable display that will cost the tax payers millions of dollars just because trump saw a display in France. I’m rolling my eyes over it. Not freaked out.

Dutchess_lll's avatar

I’m pissed off. Again.

KNOWITALL's avatar

@gondwanalon Here’s the top five presidential spenders, all of which were Democrats (except Reagan since he switched), and baby Bush. More in the link of course.

The fireworks displays are donated by the two companies who will be displaying them. The military is on duty irregardless as to whether they are in Washington D.C. or anywhere else.

There is the cost of all that fuel. That DOES count for something.

I agree with those who are protesting the Hot Dog eating contest, however. They are right to say it is unethical to stuff one’s self with donated hot dogs when we are not giving them to immigeants detained at the border.

chyna's avatar

Good article @knowitall! It proves that Obama didn’t lie in his campaign promises about helping put more money in the tax payers pockets.

mazingerz88's avatar

It’s the 4th of July Presidential Celebration “Bone Spurs” Edition. Followed by a weekend of golf, a grand feast of hamburders and illegal brown kids in cages! America, greater than ever!

Dutchess_lll's avatar

What a jerk off.

flutherother's avatar

I hope it doesn’t rain~~~~~

Dutchess_lll's avatar

HAHAHAHA!!!!

Stache's avatar

Hell no. I’ll be on a boat all day.

Dutchess_lll's avatar

Just got word that Rick’s 96 year old dad is on hospice so we’ll be breaking camp heading that way.
trump and his useless shit.can go straight to hell.

Demosthenes's avatar

@Stache Me too. Gonna see fireworks over Lake Tahoe :)

Dutchess_lll's avatar

Thanks guys. It’s hard but not really unexpected.
Sorry to derail the Q tho.

No. Even if I could be doing exactly what I want I wouldn’t watch that tacky display!

mazingerz88's avatar

I’ll edit trump’s fireworks display and replace it with fart sounds. Elevate it to the level of perfection drumpf style.

Dutchess_lll's avatar

The weather report for DC calls for rain all day!! Thoughts and prayers going out!!

mazingerz88's avatar

^^Humidity here is a bit stifling these days. It’s a win-win if it rains hamburders too. :)

canidmajor's avatar

Going to be home soothing an upset dog. I’ll probably watch 1776.

ragingloli's avatar

Happy Treason Day, everyone.

Dutchess_lll's avatar

Yeah it always scared Dakota too. She was SUCH a brave dog too.

Dutchess_lll's avatar

Thanks Raggy! You guys screwed up and ya know it!

JLeslie's avatar

So, Trump just wants the photo of him with tanks, is that it? Like how presidents put the American flags or presidential seal behind them when they speak.

The photo op is for other countries more than for Americans? Is that the idea?

Dutchess_lll's avatar

I hope it rains and pisses all over his shit tomorrow!! Forecast for DC says it might.

Yellowdog's avatar

Probably will (rain) But don’t let your hatred of Trump quell any love you might have for America.

Fourth of July parades used to be common Rosevent,. JFK, Nixon, Reagan, And a lot of U.S. presidents have done them. I’ve never known any of them to be political or dictatorial/militant although lots had the Military and armaments featured.

LadyMarissa's avatar

If “America was truly great again” we wouldn’t need to show off our tanks to impress ANY other country!!! ALL he is trying to do is impress his “friend” little rocket man!!!

Yellowdog's avatar

Well, little Rocket Man has him beat 10 to 1

Dutchess_lll's avatar

Jebus. When the hell is some one going to measure the dicks and settle this once and for all?

Yellowdog's avatar

How do you know they haven’t?

Dutchess_lll's avatar

Because they would be slinking away in shame! Men are so hung up on that shit.

KNOWITALL's avatar

@Yellowdog Do you sometimes feel some Dems have no concept of patriotism? How many Americans go overboard on the 4th? In my area, its huge. I have no problem with it at all. Furthermore if I were President, I’d probably do even more ha!

JLeslie's avatar

@KNOWITALL You might feel like that, but it simply isn’t the case. There might be a few sure, but mostly you feel that way because of what you are fed by media and your community maybe, and possibly you interpret the fear Democrats have right now with being unpatriotic.

I’ll be sporting my flag shirt today (I wear them throughout the year so it’s not really that big of a deal). I do feel like Trump and conservatives of today have ruined my ability to wear a flag shirt and it be apolitical and simply patriotic. I’d bet a lot of people who see my shirt when it’s not the 4th think I’m a Trumper or a Republican, because there has been so much talk among conservatives that Democrats are somehow antiAmerican, which I find offensive and ignorant. There is fear and disgust among Democrats with the talk of Nationalism. It’s ruining our ability to show our patriotism.

Anyway, I’m not going to hide my love and gratitude for my country, because of people who are using hate and misinformation to frame all Democrats into something that simply isn’t true.

I used to always drag my husband to the fireworks, and when I lived near my in-laws I always pushed to take my niece and nephew, because my in-laws didn’t grow up with the tradition, so I figured I was the American aunt to give it to them. Plus, I love to go.

I also show up for Veterans Day and Memorial Day events and people where I live both Democrats and Republicans have American flags all around their lawns today and on those other holidays.

I do think they go too far where I live in a general way, not on the holidays. Even on a regular day when there is a meeting open to the public by our local government it starts with a pledge to our flag. Sometimes even shows in our performing arts theatre starts with the pledge. Every large Rec center with a stage has an American flag. It traditionally is very Republican here, but we also have a very high concentration of Veterans.

Yellowdog's avatar

So, why, then, @JLeslie is this one being deemed a “Trump” event, hated and boycotted and smeared, on social media and even the regular news?

Notice the fake premise of this question itself. the original poster is describing it as a “campaign speech from the Lincoln Memorial.”

What does Trump even have to do with it except he happens to be the president at this time, the first president to do one in 25 years?

It makes no sense at all to protest a 4th of July parade.

Dutchess_lll's avatar

Because its an absurd waste of OUR money! It has nothing to do with “patriotism” and every thing to do with his personal ego and tiny dick.
If he really wants to show patriotism he needs ro allocate the millions his dick waving is going to cost into some thing tangible for the vets and their families.
He is truly a waste of a human being.

Yellowdog's avatar

Fuel costs?

I can assure you, the military and vets are overwhelmingly behind patriotic events that recognize and celebrate their sacrifice.

Dutchess_lll's avatar

Bullshit. They’d rather be able to spend the time with their families.

This is turning into a really shitty day for me. Tearing down a camp site by yourself is a LOT of work. And I found a spray bottle of Clorox water under the kitchen sink where the kids could get to it. It was in a generic spray bottle that the kids use to squirt each other. The only reason I know what it was because the word Chlorox was scribbled on it with a black sharpy that’s so worn off it’s barely legible.
Fucking hell man. WHAT was he thinking???

JLeslie's avatar

@Yellowdog I feel I should clarify my personal feelings. I love a parade! I don’t mind a DC parade, although, I have to say, I grew up in the DC suburbs, and I never went downtown to see the fireworks, and I wouldn’t go downtown to see a parade. Too much traffic, too inconvenient, maybe even a little dangerous with the big crowds.

At local parades where I’ve lived, all the places I’ve lived, for the 4th, St. Patrick’s, all sorts of holidays, almost always our military is included and I’m fine with that too. Although, as I think about it I’ve never been to a parade on the 4th, it’s usually fireworks, sometimes also a picnic.

I don’t like the tanks being brought in. I wouldn’t want a thousand soldiers marching in unison like we see from films in Nazi Germany and North Korea.

I was thinking that here we have a golf cart that gets made up into a tank (I have photos of it) and to me that means the guy who owns it used to drive one, but that to me is completely different.

A show of force looks different than simply having pour troops walk in a celebration parade. I don’t know how the DC parade will be, or will look, but the tanks really really turned me off.

If Trump talks about our country, our unity in this day, I will be very happy. If he turned it into immigration, real Americans, or uses WS language, I will be disgusted. Let’s see what happens. I still don’t believe Trump is a WS, or anything like that, but he uses and utilizes those people.

I do agree with you that if a Democrat decided to do a July 4th parade and celebration the Democrats would not be so critical, but maybe the Republicans would? Maybe they would be talking about the deficit, tax money, etc. I think the hypocrisy goes both ways.

I really hope Trump has a wonderful and uniting speech asking for peace and love and and optimism.

Basically, everyone I have talked to today has wished me a happy 4th, emojis of our flag on texts, red and blue hearts, including my friends and family who hate Trump. I just went to the pool and everyone has on red white and blue, people brought food, patriotic paper plates, and all over town are flags, and I know for a fact some of these people are Democrats.

Maybe the Democrats are having an over-reaction to the parade and the speech, I won’t know until I see what happens, which means I need to watch it if I want to know. That’s why I said, I kind of do want to see it, and I do want to know what he says.

It’s the combination of everything. Millions being spent on protecting Trump’s kids. Millions being spent on whatever else has been attached to this presidency. Trump seeming sympathetic to NeoNazis. Trump being lax on gun laws. It all just starts to add up, and so people start to feel it’s one more thing. It’s like when a kid can’t stand their parents anymore. The parents might tell them something very reasonable, but the kid overreacts like it’s the end of the world, because of the history.

Brotherhood…from sea to shining sea.

flutherother's avatar

I’ve no problem with the United States of America celebrating 4th July. I’m all for it. My issue is with Trump militarising the occasion and turning a day of celebration for all Americans into a 2020 campaign rally.

When I hear Trump talk of patriotism I think of John McCain. John McCain was a patriot who earned the respect of his fellow Americans the hard way. To hear Trump belittle him made me angry but it told me all I needed to know about Trump and patriotism.

Yellowdog's avatar

Every fourth of July Parade in D.C. (there have been at least 14 of them) have been military parades. No one minded when Carter or JFK displayed live tanks and missiles. Reagan, with the Statue of Liberty’s restoration got some harsh criticism but we were so afraid of terrorists then that no one was too critical.

In any case, I dont see where you are getting that this is about Trump or the Trump 2020 campaign. Just because some pretty awful, gross, and immature things are being said about Trump in the D.C. streets doesn’t mean the parade is about Trump.

JLeslie's avatar

Was there a parade? I went ahead and recorded CSpan and all I saw was a crowd waiting for the President while listening to the band.

Tropical_Willie's avatar

@Yellowdog You missed that the orange haired dictator demanded the TANKS, and $2,500,000 was taken from repair and maintenance funds for the National Parks (already under funded).
It was his Presidential campaign kick-off and not anything patriotic just ME ME ME ME !!!

Vets and the poor are going without and the dictator is showing how his hero HITLER did things and he wasting money again.

How his wall going ? ? Money keep getting blocked much.

Yellowdog's avatar

That’s because Democrats care more about flooding the country with illegals (but not in their own cities—they don’t want them, and their states are already blue). than they care about our own poor, vets, and the military.

Nothing in the parade cost $2,500.000.

janbb's avatar

@Yellowdog Don’t follow the news much, do you?

Tropical_Willie's avatar

@Yellowdog is in his own world @janbb.

Truth and reality don’t matter, just his precious dictator wantabe Trump

Trump is already to run for third term not just a second term.

Is it over yet?

Chicken Noodle News article names too many unnamed sources.to be credible. It was passed to CNN from the Washington Post.

Yellowdog's avatar

@Tropical_Willie The information very well could be accurate. Who cares.

But CNN and Washington Post (cited above) have published far more “news” that turned out to be false that I cannot accept anything they report, particularly the way these networks regurgitate the same usually-false stories,
