@Yellowdog I feel I should clarify my personal feelings. I love a parade! I don’t mind a DC parade, although, I have to say, I grew up in the DC suburbs, and I never went downtown to see the fireworks, and I wouldn’t go downtown to see a parade. Too much traffic, too inconvenient, maybe even a little dangerous with the big crowds.
At local parades where I’ve lived, all the places I’ve lived, for the 4th, St. Patrick’s, all sorts of holidays, almost always our military is included and I’m fine with that too. Although, as I think about it I’ve never been to a parade on the 4th, it’s usually fireworks, sometimes also a picnic.
I don’t like the tanks being brought in. I wouldn’t want a thousand soldiers marching in unison like we see from films in Nazi Germany and North Korea.
I was thinking that here we have a golf cart that gets made up into a tank (I have photos of it) and to me that means the guy who owns it used to drive one, but that to me is completely different.
A show of force looks different than simply having pour troops walk in a celebration parade. I don’t know how the DC parade will be, or will look, but the tanks really really turned me off.
If Trump talks about our country, our unity in this day, I will be very happy. If he turned it into immigration, real Americans, or uses WS language, I will be disgusted. Let’s see what happens. I still don’t believe Trump is a WS, or anything like that, but he uses and utilizes those people.
I do agree with you that if a Democrat decided to do a July 4th parade and celebration the Democrats would not be so critical, but maybe the Republicans would? Maybe they would be talking about the deficit, tax money, etc. I think the hypocrisy goes both ways.
I really hope Trump has a wonderful and uniting speech asking for peace and love and and optimism.
Basically, everyone I have talked to today has wished me a happy 4th, emojis of our flag on texts, red and blue hearts, including my friends and family who hate Trump. I just went to the pool and everyone has on red white and blue, people brought food, patriotic paper plates, and all over town are flags, and I know for a fact some of these people are Democrats.
Maybe the Democrats are having an over-reaction to the parade and the speech, I won’t know until I see what happens, which means I need to watch it if I want to know. That’s why I said, I kind of do want to see it, and I do want to know what he says.
It’s the combination of everything. Millions being spent on protecting Trump’s kids. Millions being spent on whatever else has been attached to this presidency. Trump seeming sympathetic to NeoNazis. Trump being lax on gun laws. It all just starts to add up, and so people start to feel it’s one more thing. It’s like when a kid can’t stand their parents anymore. The parents might tell them something very reasonable, but the kid overreacts like it’s the end of the world, because of the history.
