Could you tell if an old book had undergone any restoration?

Asked by mazingerz88 (29220points) July 25th, 2019

Without asking the seller is there a way to figure out if this book from the 1920s had some cleaning and fixing done to it just by simply looking at the photos? Thanks.

The listing has ended but you can still click on the link….then click on the photo of the book displayed or click on the words “see original listing” and it would then show the photos before the sale ended.

Probably not from a photo. If you have the book in front of you, you can examine the binding at cutting and how it was sewn. The pictures on that ebay posting suggest that it hasn’t, but I would want to look down the spine at the sewing, and also examine the inside front and back covers where the cover is glued to the signatures.
