How long will my General Electric clock radio last that I bought in the 80's?

Asked by RedDeerGuy1 (24945points) August 10th, 2019

I bought it from Consumers Distributing for $19.99. It was the first thing that I had ever bought with my own money other than a chocolate bar and pop. How long will it last before it breaks?

Also what was the first thing that you bought with your own money? Does it still work? Do you still have it?

I didn’t buy this with my own money, but my mom bought me a shower clock for the first house I ever bought in 1985. I still have it and it is still ticking. Thanks for asking this question!

I fear that you’ve jinxed your clock by asking this Q!!! At the same time, since it’s lasted this long, I think it’s safe to say that it will last longer than you’ll expect it to.

Oops…With my first paycheck, I purchased my Grandmother a Grandmother’s ring with the birthstones of all her grandchildren in order of birth which also worked to be in order of the birth of the child to whom they belonged. Since it was made to be worn there was nothing to still be working. When my Grams passed, she had the family return the ring to me & I’m still wearing it in memory of her. It’s been 30 years since she left us.

My husband and I both have alarm clock radios for over 30 years that still work.

I have no idea the first thing I bought with my own money. Probably, the first thing I bought with earned money from a job was clothing, since I worked in a clothing store. I really have no idea though the first thing. As a kid I was given money by my parents to buy things. Gift money, like birthday money, which was “mine” I never spent, I always put it in the bank. I didn’t spend it until after I graduated college, but I did work most of my teen years, and I spent most of it on clothing, gas for my car, food, and entertainment.

Had my alarm clock wirh reading light since age 12 or so, I’m 46, so I’m hoping it lasts forever.

Possibly until the end of time.
I’ve seen several of these clock/radios that just keep going and going…

Are you asking how long everything will function as designed? It’s another one of you questions which should begin with the word “Guess”.

Mine has been going for well over 30 years.

I can’t remember what I first bought with my own money. I probably put it in the bank.
