Will you go on a treasure hunt with me?
An acquaintance, who has absolutely wonderful taste in furniture, is moving and down sizing. She sold me these chairs. I know I got a good deal, but I’m trying to figure HOW good of a deal.
I’ve been googling, but not coming up with a perfect match. Some of you guys are real connoisseurs, so you might know some key words I don’t.
What do you think they’re worth? I can’t find a maker’s tag.
Here are the chairs.

I think those are called either Quaker chairs or ladderback chairs, and if they’re authentic period pieces, they’re worth a fortune. Even the replicas can be quite pricey. Look for the manufacturer’s seal or imprint somewhere on the underside, so you can look them up.
You need much better and more detailed images for us to search out a match.
Ladderbacks but have no idea what they’re worth. Very nice looking.
@stanleybmanly I did look for a seal but didn’t see anything. The only thing underneath is the rush and you can’t really attach anything to that.
I looked down the wooden legs and found something but it’s impossible to tell whether it’s just scuffed or a mark. I’ll work on that later.
I am certain they aren’t vintage, for one thing because the rush seat frame is attached to the chairs with a Phillips head screw. They ALL are, not just one or two screws here.
I was curious as what I would have to pay new.
I’ll keep looking and I’ll keep you posted..
Are the screws simply securing the cane seating?
So there are more mysteries. Do you suppose the chairs were manufactured with those screws, or was the cane seating replaced and the screws introduced in the process?
I think they were the original manufacturer. Nothing about them feels vintage but even if they’re new I still think they’re worth more than what I paid for them.
I’m suspicious that there are no manufacturers marks, but it would make sense if the chairs were recaned. Have you examined the undersides of all of them? Can you PM me photo of the underside of one as well as a shot of one of the legs including the foot?
I sure will but I have to run them through Imgar which I have to do on my desk top. That may take a couple of days.
