Do you prefer Popeye's or Chic-Fil-A?

Asked by KNOWITALL (29896points) August 29th, 2019

I’m sure you’ve all heard about the social media warfare between Popeyes and Chick-Fil-A.

Which do you choose?

Why?

For myself, I love Popeyes spicy chicken, hate Chic-Fil-A’s sweetness.
Additionally from a political standpoint, I can’t support the anti-LGBTQ platform of Chic-Fil-A.

I’m happy with my choice to never have gone into either of them.

I would additionally avoid Chic-Fil-A for its xenophobic politics.

KNOWITALL's avatar

@Zaku Really? You have to try the spicy chicken or shrimp po boy, a-ma-zing!

Exactly! (Both are ‘Christian’ companies btw)

JLeslie's avatar

I’ve only eaten in Chick-fil-A twice. I like Popeyes beans and rice, so just with that I’d probably go there on food alone forgetting any of the political crap that revolves around Chick-fil-A. Lately we’ve been going to Pollo Tropical for chicken.

If you like spicy you should try Gus’s Fried Chicken there is no better chicken in the universe! It has been written up in magazines and mentioned in top tens with restaurants in Paris France as by jet list restaurants. Lol. It’s franchised now. Maybe there is one near you. The sides there aren’t very good, I recommend taking it home and serving rice, mashed potatoes or macaroni that you love. Or, have their sides, but don’t expect much. http://gusfriedchicken.com/

@JLeslie Next time I’m in the Lou, I’ll try to get by there! Thanks!

elbanditoroso's avatar

We don’t have Popeyes anywhere nearby (my county in suburban Atlanta) whereas we have Chick-fil-a very close, and Bojangles as well.

Stache's avatar

No, I haven’t heard. I prefer neither.

ragingloli's avatar

I prefer rotisserie chicken from the local rotisserie chicken van.

KNOWITALL's avatar

@ragingloli I’ve never eaten from a mobile unit…lol

ragingloli's avatar

Nothing better than taking home a whole freshly grilled chicken, and eating the entire thing in one go.
Oh the skin on those is so crispy and delicious.
And where else would you get the little tails? Tiny little flavour bombs, those.

raum's avatar

We give Chick-Fil-A the middle finger every time we drive by one.

We are mature like that.

KNOWITALL's avatar

@raum hahahahaha! That’s actually the funniest thing I’ve heard in a long time, love it.

UnholyThirst88's avatar

The only fast food I eat is the person running from me…

Dutchess_III's avatar

I’ve never been to either one.

ragingloli's avatar

I do not even think we have those here.

jca2's avatar

I go to KFC. I’ve been to Chick Fil A once about six months ago and I wasn’t impressed. Never been to Popeye’s.

KNOWITALL's avatar

@jca2 Popeyes blows KFC away imo.

jca2's avatar

I don’t go to KFC too often, maybe twice a year if I’m visiting people in the area and looking for something to bring. Maybe I’ll try Popeye’s next time I’m looking to bring something, @KNOWITALL.

KNOWITALL's avatar

@jca2 Mmmm, it’s more a Louisiana spice, than the peppery KFC if that makes sense. The gravy is not thick and brown, it’s more like a giblet gravy. Hopefully ya’ll are southern enough to know what I mean…lol

ragingloli's avatar

Is this some sort of redneck joke that I am not inbred enough to understand?

KNOWITALL's avatar

@ragingloli Probably. Your pure genetic pool must prevent you from liking chicken.

raum's avatar

@KNOWITALL LOL I think it actually would require a bit of inbreeding to maintain a pure genetic pool.

You’re just not ‘Merica enough, Loli.

The chic franchise does not exist here, and I too prefer Popeye’s to the Colonel any day of the week. Pre Popeye (around 30 years back) the best chain was Church’s, but they evaporated overnight from San Francisco. There was curiously and may still remain a lone Church’s outlet on San Pablo in Berkeley, but other than that I don’t know of another Church’s anywhere. But what we do have here are fantastic chicken outlets like el pollo loco which feature chicken marinated in garlic and spice sauces and grilled over an open flame and this Middle Eastern place called Good Frickin Chicken that’s out of this world. It’s a shwarma grilling place. Every one of the 4 chicken outlets mentioned can be found within a 2 mile stretch on Mission St , on which you can absolutely find any possible thing you can imagine to eat. The truth is that I would hate to try make my living in the restaurant business here. The competition is beyond fierce—it’s horrendous.

KNOWITALL's avatar

@raum Actually you’re right. lol

LOL

I figured you’d take that news with pure devastation.

raum's avatar

@stanleybmanly The one on San Pablo is still there. Though I think it’s in Albany or El Cerrito. There’s one or two in Oakland too.

KNOWITALL's avatar

Have you been to the US @ragingloli? Just curious.

Dutchess_III's avatar

We will feed you a bologna and American cheese sandwich on white bread!

filmfann's avatar

I prefer KFC. Popeye’s is a little too spicy, though I eat there occasionally.
We don’t have a KFC local.

KNOWITALL's avatar

@Dutchess_III Gross! @ragingloli isn’t THAT bad to deserve that! haha

@filmfann Interesting. I grew up on KFC, it’s not bad, especially now that they have the tiny sliders, yummmm, although I get those spicy, too. :)

seawulf575's avatar

Sorry, @KNOWITALL I have to go with Chick-fil-a. I love their food, the speed of their service, and their politeness. I don’t typically choose my places to grab fast food based on politics.

KNOWITALL's avatar

@seawulf This girl aint turning it away, trust me.

JLeslie's avatar

Let me know if you like Gus’s. :)

Pinguidchance's avatar

@ragingloli And where else would you get the little tails? Tiny little flavour bombs, those.

The pope knows.

Nothing’s faster than a merkin red-necked chicken.

The new four drumstick breed are so swift that they’ve had to cancel free ranging for fear of flight.

Darth_Algar's avatar

I prefer Los Pollos Hermanos. Their stuff is addictive.

JLeslie's avatar

^^Is it in only in one location? I googled and the website didn’t have a locations tab.

Brian1946's avatar

The only location I can find for The Chicken Brothers is Albuquerque, NM.

I bet @Darth_Algar is Breaking Bad for a closer place. ;-)

I went there once, and Gus Fring himself threw me out, because he somehow knew that I was high on weed that I DIDN’T buy from him! ;-o

JLeslie's avatar

^^Lol. If he somehow knew, I think you better rethink if you are under the impression people can’t tell when you’re hi.

Darth_Algar's avatar

Oh, Gustavo Fring can tell when someone’s on drugs. They’re his best customers.

KNOWITALL's avatar

@ragingloli You should come. Get some chicken, protest Trump, whatever. We’re a good time!
