IPod help!

Asked by glitterrrrfish (222points) August 27th, 2008 from iPhone

My laptop deleted all the downloaded music, movies, pictures which are still on my iPod. Is there any way I can plug in my iPod and download all the music and things back on my laptop??

Copy the iPod control folders (they have hidden file/folder attributes) to your hard drive. They have wonky names, but all of the files on the iPod should be in these folders. Once you enable hidden files and disk mode on the iPod, move the files back and begin the fun!

What kind of system do you run? I can guide you through the process blast is talking about.

If you’re a windows user you can use EphPod . If you use a Mac you can use iLinkPod . Also, you can try this on xp (you must have hidden files and folders enabled to show). Browse to x:\iPod Control\Music\ (where x is your drive letter where your ipod is mounted) and then copy the files to a temporary directory. Now setup your iTunes to manage your music and copy it to it’s default folders. It should re-organize it all for you now and hopefully you’ll be happy!

How do I find the hidden files?

Well you could do what Wrex said by downloading those applications or you could do it manually, which do you prefer?

manualy please and thank you

depends on your os:
Os x – From the command line type this:
defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles TRUE
killall Finder

XP – Go to “My Computer” -> then click on Tools -> Folder Options -> Then click the view tab. From there you should see a folder icon where it says “do not show hidden files and folders” and “show hidden files and folders”. Well click the latter and then click “apply to all folders”. Then ok and there you have it.

After all that go to your iPod’s folder and then navigate through the new ones, you’ll find a bunch of folders like F01-F49 or something like that, it’s been a while since I’ve done all this but I’m an old schooler and learned the manual way and don’t like those applications.

If you bought the items on the iPod from iTunes, just open iTunes wait until your iPod shows up, Right click on your iPod in iTunes and click “Transfer Purchases”.
Voila
