Do you have any movie recommendations I can stream this evening?

Asked by jca2 (16833points) September 7th, 2019

I am looking to stream a movie this evening, either on Netflix or Prime. I like drama, crime, thrillers and comedies. The comedies can be quirky, like “Little Miss Sunshine” and “Fargo.”

I am not a big fan of horror movies or sappy love stories. Dramatic love stories like “A Star is Born” are ok.

Do you have any recommendations?

Ok, search on Netflix if these come out:

- They Live By Night (romance/crime)
Odd Man Out (crime/thriller)
Night and the City (crime/thriller)
Night of the Hunter (thriller/drama, especially when it involves children)

Late Night is on my list, good reviews.
A Simple Favor was kind of fun, but odd.
Ladies in Lavender is really excellent, Maggie Smith and Judi Dench, if you like them together.

What did you end up watching, @jca2?

I was looking at the suggestions from the posts prior to watching, which was around 10 o’clock. I was googling to see what struck me, and I was also looking at movies by some favorite actors, like Robert DeNiro, Julianne Moore, Cate Blanchett, etc.

I was looking at Amazon Prime suggestions by genre, and looking at the suggestions from the Jellies above. a few times I came across this movie, so I looked at the description and went for it.

@jca2 I think I saw that years ago.

I hadn’t heard of that one. Safe to sat you’d recommend it?

@SEKA: Yes, it was interesting. It was a documentary, although they used actors and shot it to look like home movies for parts of it. I like documentaries (forgot to mention that in my question details).

How did your movie night go? I didn’t expect you to choose a documentary for a movie night :P

jca2's avatar

It was pretty good, @Mimishu1995. I shut the computer off about halfway through, and then watched the rest of it Sunday morning. So it was “Movie Night, Movie Morning.” hahaha

Yeah, I like documentaries as long as it’s a subject i’m interested in, for example culture, families, crime, sometimes celebs if it’s not someone stupid like the Kardashians.

I never think “I need to watch a documentary tonight” but often find that I do enjoy one every now and then when faced with watching it. Glad you enjoyed
