the 16th is very poorly/vaguely worded, but that is indeed where it is.

@GD: True, but that's why there's 94 years of case law backing it up...

Well, actually (sorry, just bothered to read the wikipedia article on it) -- the power collect taxes is Article I, Section 8, of the Constitution, 16th Amendment simply means that they had much broader authority, largely related to an 1895 case that ruled property taxes weren't being collected constitutionally.

watch 'America: Freedom to Fascism' and you might change your mind (you can watch it online - go to Google video). this is a VERY interesting question.

very very good question. I've asked many lawyers and state officials this question, and have never been shown the law...

The 16th amendment is too vague and state tax laws state that you must pay taxes in accordance to the federal law. However on the federal level, there is no law requiring to pay taxes on your income.

This may be one of the biggest loop holes in our government. I would gladly pay taxes if I could see the law that states I do and see what MY tax

continuation: taxes are paying for. We could be funding another 9/11 without even knowing it.

There is law, it's under Title 26... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tax_protester_statutory_arguments
