Is there really anyone who thinks the whistle blower should be outed?

Asked by JLeslie (65790points) October 4th, 2019 from iPhone

The president wants to know who the whistle blower is. Are other politicians saying the same? ls social media, or the general media calling for the same?

Do you think we have a right to know who it is?

After Drumpf is out of office, sure.
Any earlier, and it will only serve to aid Drumpf with his ‘shoot the messenger’ strategy, to distract from the fact that the released call summary confirmed the allegations in the complaint.

It wouldn’t shock me, if the person turns up dead. But the damage has been done. Whether or not Trump is removed, it seems that he will get impeached. Trump, and his cohorts, are preparing for it.

There may be a few rolling heads.

Keeping the whistle blower’s identity a secret prevents others from seeking retribution. It is an essential part of the program. The built-in vetting process requires that the whistle blower has credibility. I never knew there was a formal whistle blower process. It seems to be well designed.

The dozen or so whistle-blowers that we’ve seen here in the Netherlands (most, if not all all of them, openly/publicly made their case) have had miserable ends of careers/personal lives, and financial issues, due to smearing tactics, and total lack of support (from organizations that one would expect it from).
I’m sure most potential whistle-blowers are aware of those scenarios, so the more kudos to them that do (that unthankful task).

So, that would be a “no”.

No one has the right to know who it is. Knowing would be a great injustice to all.

Secrecy is more than essential to the concept. It is the ONLY hope for any possibility of insiders exposing malfeasance on the part of their superiors. Even with such protections in place and guaranteed, the near certainty regarding permanent disruption of a whistleblower’s life is usually more than ample deterrence for anyone of intelligence.

Any chance it’s Melania

No. Absolutely not. Maybe in 50 years.

No, the Whistleblower Protection Act exists to protect whistle-blowers from retribution. The whistle-blower in question followed procedure scrupulously and his complaint was found to be credible. It would be illegal to identify him/her.

Trump would like to ignore laws that don’t suit him which is just one reason why he is unfit to be president.
