Do you ever develop an idea of how a person looks based on their voice?

Asked by Dutchess_III (47126points) October 4th, 2019

Just yesterday I came across a video of the song Brandy. I was shocked when I saw what the singer actually looks like! He has that fine, deep voice…but he looks like this really sweet guy. I just expected some thing a little bigger, darker, hairier, OLDER!

This shocked me too! I never really developed an idea of what the guy might look like….but it certainly wasn’t THAT!

Oh, the music of my childhood summers

Always.

And when I meet them, I find out that 80% of the time, I am wrong.

All the time.
I always thought that everybody does this?
Usually I’m way off, with how I think someone looks like.
I’m also sweet with a fine, deep voice, so not thát uncommon… ;-)

Well, hey. Call me up and sing “Brande” to me @rebbel! ♥ Also “McAurthur Park,” please. ☻☻♥♥☻☺☺♣

The funny thing is, I never consciously developed an image of some kind in my head. I didn’t even know that I had until I saw him yesterday and it sat me back in my chair.

@Dutchess_III My singing voice is different; think Bee Gees.

The place where I work – the employees are all over the country. I’m on the east coast, there are a couple in Wisconsin, one in North Carolina, several in California, and so on.

We are on the phone with each other all the time. I know their voices well.

From time to time we will have Zoom or GoToMeeting sessions with our webcams on. At one of those meetings I finally learned what one of my best phone colleagues looks like. It was a huge surprise.

I have worked for this company for just under 15 years and been on phone calls with everyone – but there are still people I haven’t seen (either in person or on webcam).

For anyone who can remember those electronic speak & spell toys back in the day.
I kinda pictured the guy’s voice as some tough, macho action man type thing.
Turned out it was Stephen Hawking…you could have knocked me down with a feather.

Based on your other thread about your voice, if we ever meet I’ll know not to pay any attention to your pix , lol.

Forewarned is forearmed.

Me. Were you expecting something hairier, darker, older? ~

Yep! Lots of it. And it’s naturally curly. I have good hair.
