Is the song, This world will never be what I expected, from Three Days Grace, about incest, and monsters? (NSFW)

The lyrics seem pretty open-ended. Personally, I wouldn’t have the same reading of it as you did. We all have different demons.
In case anyone else is curious to read the song lyrics…
This world will never be
What I expected
And if I don’t belong
Who would have guessed it?
I will not leave alone
Everything that I own
To make you feel like it’s not too late
It’s never too late
Even if I say
It’ll be alright
Still I hear you say
You want to end your life
Now and again we try
To just stay alive
Maybe we’ll turn it all around
‘Cause it’s not too late
It’s never too late
No one will ever see
This side reflected
And if there’s something wrong
Who would have guessed it?
And I have left alone
Everything that I own
To make you feel like
It’s not too late
It’s never too late
Even if I say
It’ll be alright
Still I hear you say
You want to end your life
Now and again we try
To just stay alive
Maybe we’ll turn it all around
‘Cause it’s not too late
It’s never too late
The world we knew
Won’t come back
The time we’ve lost
Can’t get it back
The life we had
Won’t be ours again
This world will never be
What I expected
And if I don’t belong
Even if I say
It’ll be alright
Still I hear you say
You want to end your life
Now and again we try
To just stay alive
Maybe we’ll turn it all around
‘Cause it’s not too late
It’s never too late
Maybe we’ll turn it all around
‘Cause it’s not too late
It’s never too late (It’s never too late)
It’s not too late
It’s never too late
@raum Thanks. I thought that the girl was raped by her uncle and grew up trying to kill herself and got committed. Then the father beats up the uncle and saves the girl. From the video.
No idea who the guy is that’s with her of course. But abuse would be my guess as well. Perhaps PTSD and who knows what else has sent her to a psych ward. In my mind the fight scene is representative of her breaking free from the past.
If I hadn’t read the comments I would just interpret it as someone who is contemplating suicide, but I didn’t get why they were contemplating suicide. I didn’t even get that it was a girl.
@Dutchess_III Um, so you thought it was a boy?
Oh, you must not have watched the video.
Feeling like you don’t belong but in the end feeling free.
No, I didn’t watch the video. I just read the lines and I did not get any feeling of any specific gender from it.
I watched the video. Fuck that guy. And fuck every man like him. They rip a life up. They destroy a life….and for WHAT??!! FOR WHAT????
@Dutchess_III I don’t think that actual guy did anything tho. Just sayin.
I think it was meant to imply that he sure as hell did. The video indicated that hee shattered that child. Every child that is subjected to sexual abuse is shattered and the men don’t give a shit. They keep doing it over over for their own sick, selfish urges.
@Dutchess_III Well considering it’s a video, I’m gonna go out on a limb and say that guy was an actor.
Surely you didn’t think that I thought I was looking at a video of an actual event? I realize the guy was an actor, and so was the child.
But the story is a reality for so many children and it is horrible.
Whoops. Thought the question was about the song. So I didn’t watch the video before answering.
Just watched the video. I don’t think the song is about sexual abuse. But I do think the video is though.
Unsure about actual relationship. Could be father, uncle or mother’s boyfriend. Who knows?
Well, the mother was going out, presumably with the father, so I don’t think it was the mother’s boyfriend or the father. That does leave an unknown, full grown adult male to babysit.
I did the same thing, didn’t watch the video first. All I got from the song was that someone wanted to commit suicide, but no idea who or why. So without the video the song is meaningless.
Before music videos, it was left to the listener to decide what the song is about. I prefer to listen to the music and use my own imagination and interpretation.
I agree @chyna. If you can’t figure out what the song is about without a video, then, as far as I’m concerned, that song is useless.
OTOH, if a person is suicidal, for whatever reason, I imagine they can easily fill in the blanks with their own story.
