What is it about snow that makes people, children and adults, and animals get so goofy?
One time I was subbing in a class room. I was in front of the class talking, when I glanced out the window. Suddenly I stopped talking in mid sentence and my head was hanging low.
“What’s wrong Ms V?”
Big sigh.
“It’s snowing.”
Pandemonium ensued as every kid rushed the windows, like I knew they would! I tried to turn it into a teachable moment with random crap about snow, but mostly we just watched an marveled. It wrecked the room for a good 10 minutes. :D
And my Dakota would just plow through it like a big white kid-bear. She obviously enjoyed it.
So what IS it about snow that makes us goofy?

Snow is incredibly beautiful and unusual—animals marvel in its properties which are unlike mere water or foliage. For children, who not only appreciate its beauty, it offers opportunity to play, to marvel, and sometimes for school’s closing.
Snow isn’t that fun in a stark wilderness, or when homeless. But if you have a place of safety and warmth, it is magical to watch.
Good point about being homeless. :(
Every time it snows it’s like the first time ever.
Snow is great as long as have to do in and with it is play.
But if you have to drive in it for a living it gets pretty ugly fast.
How else can we make angels?
Just a mental recap of fond memories, innocence, living a carefree life as a Child, that special time of the Yr. aka Old Man Winter, depending on where you live makes a difference! For me, I didn’t grow up around snow, so when I see snow still to this day, it makes me recall admiring breathtaking Xmas cards as a kid and taking notice of the snow that sparked with hints of irradecent glitter, it just looked magical to me. That was enough to make me smile and feel playful!!
Times I’ve been stuck indoors with it snowing outside, and I’m cozy with blankets and things to read and power and food, and not having to think about driving anywhere for a few days, it’s incredible. It’s like a picture postcard except you’re living in it.
Times it’s snowing and I’m stressing out about “do I drive to work or do I wait or do I take the whole day off” it’s no fun at all. Snow is beautiful as long as you don’t have to drive in it.
