What has changed in the interim? I mean what’s the point to either cult other than the fact that both are clearly derived from the same root (the book).

Are you that scared of one or the other, of being in the wrong one when judgment day comes, that you might get left behind by The Almighty? Does it scare you to be of no religion at all? Do you think The Almighty really cares what religion you ended up in so long as you lived your life as He would have wanted you to?

I agree with your assessment though. As long as you lead a good and kind life, who cares which God you believe in?
However, the churches (that were, until recently, the long arm of the law) said you had go believe in the one god they told you to believe it. And you had to give that God money. The long arm of the law would see that the money got to that One, True God, and not find it’s way to the multitude of fake, non-existent Gods.
