Browsing a schedule of movie showtimes, I see the following labels next to some of them:
XD
IMAX
RPX
DVS
DP (typically only at Drive-ins)
CC
Audio Description
Can you explain the different formats?
I assume CC means close captioned, and I think IMAX is the huge screen. Whatever happened to 3D? Never caught on?

Some movies in IMAX are 3-D and IMAX is the huge screen
XD is Cinemark’s “extreme digital” which is their proprietary projection system. Hard to tell if it is much better.
CC is Closed Captions, you’re right. .
Audio Description is similar to closed captions but, like the title suggests, it provides a description of events on screen for those who are blind or hard of sight.
Both are accessibility features, not movie formats, to make watching movies more accessible to everyone.
Thanks. Anyone know what RPX and DVS are?
According to the wiki on Audio Description, DVS stands for Descriptive Video Service, I think it’s the term used for the implementation of AD, so when you see it, you’ll know there’s Audio Description (probably not automatically, but present).
RPX is Regal Premium Experience, I’ve never heard of it before but it looks like it’s just gold class an IMAX mashed together
