The Birds is my favorite although Rear Window is a close second.
Strangers and Rear Window come to mind.
His rap battle against Spielberg.
Rear Window is my fave, followed closely by North by Northwest.
A shoutout for Vertigo, too.
I can’t say which film is best, but Strangers on a Train is my favorite, hands down.
@stanleybmanly If a film is your favourite, then by definition you consider that to be his best work.
@ucme -He knew how to create suspense unlike today’s garbage which I can’t get through.
@lucillelucillelucille This is true, you can see the supposed shock twist a mile away, more suspense in a silent fart.
@ucme Don’t forget the gratuitous gore.
@ucme wait a second. I want YOU to consider the implications in my telling you that I don’t know which of his films is best. The 39 Steps is probably a better film, but both of them are splendid. I insist that I can have a favorite without declaring it the best.
@stanleybmanly Hey if it pleases you that much then knock yourself out, with my blessing.
I’m just saying that there IS a difference.
Top three. Rebecca, Vertigo and tie between North by Northwest and 39 Steps.
North by Northwest is another great, along with The Saboteur. Choosing which is best is for me an impossible matter of opinion. But Saboteur, 39 steps, N by NW, Foreign Correspondent, The Lady vanishes are all sprawling adventure chase masterpieces.
North by Northwest, by far. Cerebral.
Birds scared the crap out of me.
“Notorious,” starring Cary Grant and the exquisite Ingrid Bergman.
It’s a toss up between Psycho, and Rear Window.
North by Northwest
Rear Window
I also particularly like:
To Catch A Thief
The 39 Steps
The Lady Vanishes
I’d also rather watch just about anything else he’s directed rather than almost all modern productions.
Vertigo is my personal favorite, though Rear Window is a close second. The plot of Vertigo is somewhat nonsensical but it’s almost incidental to the movie’s quality. I love the “atmosphere” of the movie, especially the voyeuristic first half.
I forget sometimes that Rebecca is Hitchcock. That’s certainly one of the best too.
My top two favorites, Rebecca and Vertigo with imo having the most not so easily pinned down characters in Hitchcock films.
My favorites in order:
Psycho
The Birds
Rear Window
North By Northwest
Strangers On A Train
Vertigo
Shadow Of A Doubt
Lifeboat
Rope
Cheers peeps of the www.
Big Alf’s films still endure, that much is clear, always been a fan.
Strangers on a Train & Rope though are absolute gems, never tire of seeing them.
I love the idea of him popping up as an extra in all of his movies.
My two favorites are North by Northwest and Rear Window.
@josie Your answer belongs toward the bottom of the thread then.
North by Northwest. Beautiful house in that movie.
