Do you know of any good, credible GMAT study websites?

Asked by EmpressPixie (14767points) August 29th, 2008

I need to study for the GMAT. I’d like to do it online because the test is computer based now. I’m really worried about the quality of the website because while I don’t mind paying to belong, I don’t want to get caught up in something like this: http://www.businessweek.com/bschools/content/jun2008/bs20080627_391632.htm?campaign_id=rss_daily

(Short version: the site used questions still currently in use to help students study. It’s not clear if everyone knew the questions were “live” and I feel like there is a good chance some students had no idea. I don’t want to be a student that has no idea.)

I highly recommend Manhattan GMAT. www.manhattangmat.com . This service offers great materials 1. Books on each sections; 2. the official GMAT guide that gives you real GMAT questions 3. 3–5 adaptive GMAT tests. You can choose the take the courses they offer either online or in person. I highly recommend the courses because they are taught by quality instructors that scored 780 or better. They do a good job of teaching you all of the tricks to taking the GMAT. This is much better than just trying to study on your own. The homework they assign seems excessive, but it is well worth the work if you want to drastically improve your GMAT score.

Remember, the GMAT is an adaptive test. This means that the questions get harder or easier depending on how you are doing. If you get a question right, you get a harder question. If you get a question wrong, you get an easier question. This means that by the end of the test you end up in a range and that is how you get your score. Time management is key to taking the GMAT. Practicing and taking some practice tests before the real thing will help you strategize and understand how to manage your time.

The Manhattan GMAT course (and all other similar courses) are pricy, but the good ones are worth their weight in gold. Good luck.
