Did you hear that Bloomberg is thinking about running as a Democrat?

Asked by JLeslie (65791points) November 7th, 2019 from iPhone

Would you vote for him? Do you think he could win the primary? Would he beat Trump?

Bloomberg will not beat Trump. Outside the comfort of his Ivory tower Bloomberg will falter and blunder to a degree that will make Biden look genius. And the only reason he will run is because he thinks he can just throw all his money at running for President where Clinton clearly proved you cannot buy the Presidency.

Keep an eye on Tulsi I think she has a real chance for the very reason she is so not Trump and so not Bloomberg and she has moxy which will attract a lot of attention from the Independents and those looking for someone not held by the short hairs by a political party.

It may be too late for Bloomberg. If he had started 6 months ago, he could have made a difference.

If you look at my Fluther postings from 2016, you will see that I was for Bloomberg back then. I still am.

@Vignette I don’t think Bloomberg will be any sort of puppet to any party. He calls himself whatever party has an opening for him to run and win. That’s what he did in NYC when he ran as a Republican for mayor the first time. People outside of NYC politics may not realize that liberal NY Democrats more often than people think vote for “Republicans” on a local level, or used to anyway.

@JLeslie No way the Republicans will have him so his only hope is the dems and they will need someone other than their current front runners to have a chance at Trump. Bloomberg has already hurt himself greatly by attacking and threatening the coal and gas industries and there loses a very large voting block. He has lost his bid before his hat lands in the ring.

I just don’t feel Bloomberg could win the Primary. He seems uncertain as to what to do. Run. Not run.

Vignette's avatar

@mazingerz88 He will certainly have a rough time of it seeing as he just threw the entire Democratic effort to date under the bus by justifying his thought of running because he does not believe there is anyone currently running that can beat Trump. He might as well have called them all Deplorables.

I heard he is thinking of running. I could get excited about another player on the scene since I didn’t think too much of the others. Get it on!

Judge Judy commented that she would like to see Bloomberg run for president. I can’t imagine why, but….. Maybe she has talked him into it.

@Vignette The Republicans already have Trump. Are you implying Trump will be gone before the election?

I honestly don’t know what Bloomberg has said about coal and gas, I’ll have to look that up. I wonder how many Americans work in those industries? Has coal mining actually increased under Trump like Trump said it would?

jca2's avatar

@Jleslie: coal mining is dead. I feel sorry for the miners who believed his campaign promises that the coal mining industry would be revived.

JLeslie's avatar

@jca2 That’s What I thought. So that’s irrelevant unless coal mining families still believe its coming back. Or, was it people who don’t work in coal mining believed it would come back, and still do, because they don’t have the information and don’t care to find out the truth.

I doubt that alienating the coal mining industry is what will swing the election one way or the other. Fool me once….

My state was a huge coal mining state. Most coal mines have closed and trump promised they would reopen. Nothing has happened to open new mines and more have closed. Our idiot governor bought up some of those mines with promises of reopening them. Not only did that not happen, he owes millions on taxes for those properties.
I’m 100 percent sure that if I owed back taxes, not only would my wages be garnished, I’d be put in jail.

Aster's avatar

Yes; I heard. Trump said “he doesn’t have the magic.” We’ll see.
I am disappointed with Trump on the coal problem @chyna .

elbanditoroso's avatar

What sort of people ever thought that bringing back the coal industry was remotely possible? Idiots! It was declining long before 2016, primarily because it was uneconomical compared to natural gas, and other countries stopped buying from the US.

Trump was selling something he had no possible way of delivering.

chyna's avatar

Why is trump calling Bloomberg “little Michael “?

elbanditoroso's avatar

Bloomberg is short-statured. 5’8”

And Trump is a 4 year old and calls people names because he can.

Also, Bloomberg is richer than Trump ($51 billion) and that really pisses of poor Trump.

JLeslie's avatar

@chyna So, does that mean your Governor believed what Trump was saying about the coal mines?
