Participants give just “one single word” as clue to the movie they have in mind.
That one word could be part of a memorable line in the film. It could be the first name or the last name of a character. A certain device which played a big part in the story. A place. An incident. A wardrobe. A prop. And so on.
Players can join and start anytime. Word givers please check in when you can to acknowledge a winner and guessers please be patient for acknowledgment that you gave the right answer. There’s a chance this game will go on for days.
This game ends on the last day of 2019. Big winner is the jelly who has the most number of correct answers.

I’ll start. The word is “cannoli.”
Not Brian’s Song.
Toast. That’s a tough one. lol My cannoli is easier.
Toast – Rocky Horror Picture Show.
“Dug”
Really? lol That dog is certainly unforgettable.
@Vignette…The Graduate. (You can thank F luther that I learned that here just the other day.)
@Dutchess_III Your hubby might know the right answer to my “cannoli.”
He doesn’t know…. The Godfather?
Leave the gun, take the cannoli.
Cannoli: Godfather?
Plastics: Mean Girls?
“Inconceivable!”
@raum Plastics was indeed The Graduate. “I just have one word for you. Plastics”
The Princess Bride @raum.
Yup! Probably too easy, but I couldn’t help myself. Love that movie!
This is a new one:
Noodle salad
(I’m afraid this game doesn’t work so well with this site’s format…total chaos)
WHAT IS THE ANSWER TO CANNOLI????
Cellar Door (is that one word or two? I dunno)
I have one that I’m sure someone who was alive in the previous century will get:
Shane!
This one word is not working..
I have another one that should be at least somewhat answerable:
Rosebud…
@ Brian yes on terminator.
@Dutchess_lll
I basically agree.
I guess if we stay within the game’s parameters, the challenge is for the asker to think of an iconic, and in that sense recognizable word.
Perhaps I should summon the fount of cinematic knowledge, FILMFANN, to energize this thread.
“Rosebud” is from a 50s film….WHAT WAS IT! Mutiny on the Bounty?
Rosebud is easy, Citizen Kane. I haven’t watched that in quite a while. I’m long overdue.
Shane is bugging me. I feel I should know.
Is it something John Wayne was in?
Nope.
The lead actor was about a foot shorter than him- Alan Ladd.
There’s a real strong literal link between that word and the movie’s title.
It’s not Mongo.
If that’s a clue to another movie, then my guess is Blazing Saddles.
Yes, it is, and you guessed it. :-)
TOGA’s a great clue, but I’ll let one of my acolytes have a chance to answer. ;-)
@Dutchess, if you are finishing the title of mine, then yes.
Moses
Cows
Emerald
Calypso
Wallace
Poppies
Groot
Coke
@Dutchess_III got the right answer to my cannoli clue first. The Godfather.
Needless to say I will tabulate the scores myself later on.
To try for Dutchess_III “ocean” Is it Titanic?
@rebbel ^^Bourne Identity?
Re @stanleybmanly “courage”
Is it Mr. Smith Goes To Washington?
Re Patty_Melt “calypso” Is it Pirates of the Caribbean?
Re anniereborn’s “cellar” Could it be…Evil Dead ( Dead by Dawn ) ?
Re Patty_Melt “twinkies” Zombieland
So nobody here remembers a 1953 movie, where a young boy yells “Shane!”, as Shane rides away into the sunset?
@rebbel
While You Were Sleeping?
@lucillelucillelucille
Please tell me the title, just to make sure you’re not thinking of City Slickers. ;-)
JP was only 33 then, so I can see the attraction.
For me it was the Tetons.
No.
No.
Are there single words left?
To guess?
@Brian1946-“Shane”
—I liked him when he was old too—lol
@rebbel-The one with Harrison Ford? Strange that i can’t remember.lol
Just for my information, are these answers, @ucme, or new clues?
Was wondering what your extra “nope” was for lol they’re new clues
Damn, Shutter Island was such a great guess. Based it on cameras…Instant film & Shutter, plot correct too.
Gotcha.
I haven’t seen it, but it’s not the one.
@rebbel Amnesia. Hmmm…Manchurian Candidate? Spellbound?
Uhuh, no.
Notice that extra clue, “Instant film”.
Paycheck? Unknown? Memento? Total Recall?
“Ding ding ding”, we have a winner!
Memento.
@rebbel whew, that was driving me nuts
@mazingerz88 No. courage is a bad clue. I meant it for the Wizard of Oz. “Badges!” Is a much better clue for another classic.
Rock candy beats me. “Gobstoppers” I can solve.
For “dingus” think Bogart
The dingus was the statue in another Bogart movie.
So I contributed with 3 efforts no guesses yet, c’mon chaps, play the bloody game or I shall stamp my feet
@ucme -What About Bob?lol definite guess
ADDENDUM : Players, please indicate if the word is a Clue or a Guess.
Here is a guess for @ucme’s “Baseball” Is it Moneyball?
For @stanleybmanly’s HAL my guess is Space Odyssey 2001.
Here is a clue….CARTOUCHE.
Lol If you guessed this right, you’re awesome in my book.
Okay, we’re working on entry level so I’ll make it easy with further clues…
Safe – Dentist
Baseball – Camp
“Bobby” – Clone
@Brian1946 “Geronimo” came from the movie Conspiracy Theory
Safe – Dentist is from the film The Marathon Man
Melancholy – my guess is the film Melancholia by Von Trier?
^^That movie was hard to watch but it’s great.
Had to practically give Marathon Man away :D
The other two are just as simple, think & it will reveal itself.
@mazinger, yes on both.
I knew Twinkies was going to be a gimme for somebody, but I was curious to see who would catch it first.
Most of my clues still have not been solved. Of the list, two are to the same movie.
Some are so easy, I expected them to be solved right away.
I wish there was a way to delete or check off the ones already solved.
Let’s see who is fastest.
42
:::Further clue klaxon:::
Baseball – Camp – War
“Bobby” – Clone – Hitler
42 – Hitchiker’s Guide
@ucme It’s taking me awhile. I might not have seen those films.
Oh wait, Bobby – clone – Hitler….the Boys From Brazil?
Baseball – camp – war – A League or their Own! Lol
@Patty_Melt
I’d say I’m fastest because I answered before you posted “42”. ;-o
Or I could be the fastest with the wrong answer.
^^You get the point. Not me then.
It wasn’t there when I posted. We must have clicked at the same time. But, yes.
How? Edit another response?
@mazingerz88 Right with Boys from Brazil, see, I told you it would hit you like a train lol
Wrong with the other though…try again & if you haven’t seen the film I shall be amazed.
If I was really good I would have figured it out with Bobby and Clone. If I was better Bobby would have sufficed. I needed Hitler. lol
CLUE – “Wolfie”
Will give next & surely final clue to the remaining film spelling letters of word individually in seperate posts, one minute apart…you ready?
So remember, It’s Baseball – Camp – War &...
It’s not letting me post one letter at a time now, how strange
Cooler…there you go, gift wrapped!
Well, I suck. Lol Someone else will figure it out.
A word like baseball is too general to be a clue. There are hundreds of movies about it or including it.
I will make one quick stab at it.
League Of There Own, just because I really like the movie.
Baseball – Steve McQueen
Cooler – Threw/bounced/caught
Camp – POW
War – WWII
The Great Escape
Perfectly good clues, stuck to the rules of the game…next!
Did see the film The Great Escape a really, really long time ago. What I remember the most is McQueen’s motorcycle scene.
@Dutchess_III I took a guess with your clue “ocean” last night. I said, is it Titanic?
Is Jack another clue? If it is, my guess is the same, Titanic.
( Dunno why when using my cellphone highlighting a name doesn’t always work. )
This game is falling apart. The thread is already long enough to lose track of which clues are still in play.
Posting my one word movie clues again…for anybody willing to take guesses.
For the first movie the one word clue is….“cartouche”
For the second movie the one word clue is….“wolfie”
I will add a new one which I think should be a bit easier. The one word clue is….“napalm”
@Dutchess_lll Guessing again for your one word clue “ocean”....is it the movie “Waterworld”?
Well not THAT old! But excellent guesses.
Are we allowed to give a second hints? Like….“boat”...
^ The Seven Dwarves. Snow White
^^Good guess. Hope it’s the right one.
@ucme Very nice! You got it. That wasn’t very hard but not too easy either. You know movies.
My other two clues “cartouche” for one film and “wolfie” for another might be too hard though. My third which is “napalm” should be easy.
Here’s a new clue! This should be easy! The word is….”If”
Yes, “If” LoL
Napalm is obviously Apocalypse Now
Cartouche could be The Mummy
Wolfie sounds like it might from another war movie
If, there’s a film with that exact name stars Malcolm McDowell.
@mazinger, actually, League Of Their Own does fit that. The female baseball camps started because the men were off to war.
Madonna earned my respect in that one.
@Patty_Melt Agree. Not sure if you noticed but I made the same guess before you did. I credit the film’s director for guiding Madonna in that one. However I couldn’t think of any single word that would by itself describe A League of Their Own. Well, maybe Madonna. lol
@ucme Have to drop easy ones. Apocalypse Now is correct. The Mummy isn’t right but you’re close. Wolfie isn’t from a war movie but sure have lots of action in the film I have in mind. My clue “If”....in the movie or movies that’s from, it always gets mentioned and is pivotal to having a story told. ( there, more clues )
Oh! I did miss that.
I actually feel better about my guess now that I share it with someone who’s doing so well at this game. :-)
No but I admire you slightly for saying that.
Bus.
Magical Mystery Tour?
@ucme Halloween II ain’t it.
I think a variation of this game should be on TV. ( if not already ) Contestants are given one word clues every 30 seconds until one of them figures which film it is.
Let me do that with my “wolfie” right now. I’ll add one more word as clue. Won’t do it every 30 seconds though. I’ll add a third later.
So, first clue is “wolfie” Second one word clue on the same film is “phone”
______________
To guess on “bus” Is it…..Midnight Cowboy? The Graduate? Superman?
Midnight and The Graduate have scenes ending in buses as I recall. Superman saved a school bus.
Bus, bus , bus. Is it….Forrest Gump? He was waiting for one. lol
Hit me with second clues for cartouche & If & you get one back for bus!
Deal. Another guess for bus…..Harry Potter? That magical double-decker bus.
Cartouche / Sun
No not HP.
Guess: Night at the Museum or possibly Stargate
